| Yorkie Air Travel This summer I'll be moving home and have to take my yorkie with me on a plane (no option to travel by car). He will have to be checked as baggage, and it's a 6 hour flight. I'm curious for advice and tips on how to make the transition easier for him. So far I've bought his crate, purchased a dryfur.com travel kit (absorbent pad, special lipped cups to prevent water from spilling). I've also been taking my yorkie to the park in his crate, and leaving treats in it so he becomes accustomed to traveling in it. I would appreciate any additional tips for traveling on an airplane with a dog! Thanks. |

| Why can't you take your Yorkie in the cabin with you? If you buy the right sized carrier, many airlines allow you to have your furbaby tucked right under the seat in front of you. I would never think of checking Rio into the cargo area of the plane. She'd be terrified, and I'd be terrified for her! |

| yeah, I've heard of many people bringing their small dogs in the cabin with them...I would definitely check into it pretty thoroughly...I wouldn't ever put my boys in the cargo hold! I've heard it gets really cold down there, something that little yorkies shouldn't be exposed to...good luck!!!!

| I cannot take him in the cabin of the plane, it's flight from the Mainland USA to Hawaii. Pets are not allowed in the cabin when flying from the Mainland to Hawaii. |

| Oh man, sorry to hear that! I know Hawaii has a quarantine law for dogs - up to 120 days. Make sure you check into the 5-day release program. Here's the link if you don't already have it. Good luck and Aloha! Animal Quarantine Information — Hawaii Department of Agriculture |

| Please do check into taking him into the cabin with you!! Thinking of a lil yorkie, alone for 6 hours, scared, in the dark, cold, makes me very sad! I see dogs on flights all the time! The latest carrier we got is airline approved...it's a Kwigy Bo Carrier. Snick & Viv

Moving dogs to Maui - Hawaii (HI) - Page 11 - City-Data Forum You might check into sending him in cabin on Pacific Air Charter. At least, it would be in the cabin. I couldn't possibly put one in the cargo. There are an awful lot of healthy dogs that die there.

| This may be far fetched but if you get a Dr.'s note stating that YOU cannot be without your dog... if you catch my drift then you should be able to bring your baby in the cabin with you.

| Oh no no I didn't mean it like that. I should have explained myself better. I meant if you tell a Dr. that you really need your Dog with you because it helps you travel more with ease (which isn't lieing because you would be more at ease if your dog were with you) then the airline would be more inclined to obliged. I didn't mean for you to lie or break the law in any way!!!! I'm not like that. That's why I said it was far fetched...

| The laws that are in place that prevent my dog from flying in the cabin are there for a reason. They protect the entire state, native plants and animals from possible diseases, seeds, pollen, and soil that my dog could be carrying which could be devastating to the native Hawaiian plants and animals. The laws are in place for a reason and as part of that law I don't REQUIRE my dog to fly, I can fly without him, and flew a dozen times last year without him, therefore he would not be allowed in the cabin. I'm not looking be excluded from this law, I'm looking for tips to work WITH the law. |
