| Why do dog rescues think it is okay call a yorkie a teacup? Hi Everyone , I am from the Northern Ohio/ Southern Michigan Region and I just wanted to say how disgusted I am at seeing animal rescue's on petfinder in my area referring to their yorkie's as tea cups!! I mean they are a rescue they should be educated on this information! I am talking about more than one of them. I just could not believe my eyes reading yorkie after yorkie profiles stating that they are tiny teacups!! Your thoughts on this one is appreciated!!

| I too find that very strange. Are they reputable rescues I wonder. Maybe a rescue worker will see your post and be able to give you some insight on it. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | First of all not all rescues are legitimate, teacup does sound like a term an unethical and unknowledgeable breeder would use. It's possible that some rescues aren't knowledgeable in term, and some people do call any small dog a teacup. Remember, one of the fastest growing scams is breeders running their own rescues.

| Yes I have really realized there is some un legitimate rescues. What really bothers me is that a lot of the claim they are a 501c. I guess my question is why are they aloud on petfinder. I tried looking for a link on petfinder to complain about a rescue that i was looking at because I think she was truly a dog brooker (and I have ready reviews with people who agree), but I could not find somewhere to complain that she should not be allowed on the sight

| A couple of thoughts besides many rescue's not being legit is that if a rescue adoptes all dogs many of them would not know about the word teacup but if it is a Yorkie rescue and they are using that word then I would not trust them. Again the 501K does not mean they are reputable because anyone can write it on their website but this website will help you look a rescue up to see if they are approved...the name can be different so this is not a 100% effective but another clue to look at. GuideStar nonprofit reports and Forms 990 for donors, grantmakers and businesses Who are the rescues you are talking about? Do you mind posting them? It is very difficult for petfinder to check everyone out but I agree with you ..there should be a place to report bad rescues but in this case it still might not be a bad rescue...

| do not mind at all A1k9 rescue revenna ohio. Thanks for the link!! They have a site also. I have been looking at them for weeks and popular to what she quotes on her site she only has puppies. Which I am not saying is a bad thing, but she offers shipping on her rescues, and her adoption application is a joke! I actually applied and she approved me with in 1 hour! She also expected me to put a deposit on the dog as soon as she approves you, and she told me if someone puts a deposit on the dog first she would sell it.

You can try to send that report to Petfinder, but I can tell you that I have reported one that I know is a mill from MO and Petfinder has not budged. They give you the standard, "We will look into it" and then they do nothing. I gave them proof that the people hold a Class B license and they still don't care. The one I have reported was promptly removed by Adopt A Pet. Petfinder just does not seem to care. I have seen more and more of them on Petfinder and honestly I am so disgusted with the whole thing that I have given up contacting them. The mills are having a hard time selling now because of the bad publicity so now they call themselves rescues. There is one that a member of YT got a pup from. This person met people at a McDonald's parking lot with a car full of pups....just started handing them out and they all were sick or had major issues. VERY disgusting and depressing.
