| ![]() Hi everyone! I'm new here. I'm also new to yorkshire terriers. I do have 3 other dogs though. (a collie (Lassie), golden (Casen) and a chihuahua (Dolly)). So one more (and LAST Dog lol) small dog to add to the family. Bella is an absolute doll. She's 11 weeks and full of spunk. She def. likes to be the center of attention. My kids LOVE her. We got her a small pink bed and she loves it. I can't wait to meet you all and see all of your yorkie babies. I would appreciate any tips, tricks, grooming tips, etc on yorkies. Things they never tell you in books. lol Some questions: Bella doesn't like the crate. She likes to sleep by my head or neck for some reason. She also doesn't like to be alone. Just got her yesterday and i'm told she is 3 1/2 lbs. How big will she get when she's an adult? Also, i've researched a little about grooming. They need baths once a week? What shampoo/conditioner etc would you recommend for a yorkie? She also has hair in her eyes. I'd rather see her eyes. Do I trim around the eyes or wait to grow out so I can put it up in a clip? What are your favorite clips and where to buy? When should she see a groomer? Does your yorkie seem to be a one person dog? Any favorite yorkie websites/places to buy things? I'm sorry I ask so much. I'm sure I will find some answers once I look around some. I'm glad I found this site. ![]() |

| ![]() Welcome to YT! ![]() Hair in front of the eyes: depends on what kind of hairstyle you anticipate you will want as she matures. If you want short hair, trim between the eyes, If you go for the long coat, you are going to have to contend with an awkward stage where the hair wants to stick in the eyes. My oldest boy has a full coat and he had "bat wings" in front of his eyes for awhile. I used a little vaseline to smooth it down. Not pretty, but it did the trick. Shampoos: so many to choose from including BioGroom Fluffy Puppy (available at PetSmart) or Yorkie Splash 'n Shine sold by a YT member (find in "products for sale" section of forum). Size: a general rule of thumb is to double the weight at 12 weeks, although not every Yorkie follows the rule. Yorkies tend to want to be close to their people, especially when they are puppies -- and you just brought your little girl home yesterday. My boy wanted to be held for almost 3 straight days when I first brought him home. Enjoy your puppy! |

She shouldn't need a bath every week right now. At this age she is starting to lose the baby hair and the permanent hair will replace it. Just give her a daily brushing to keep the loose hair out. My advice for shampoo is Dr. Bronners liquid castile baby mild soap. Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps Retail Store: Baby Mild Liquid Soap It can't be beat. Then buy BRAGG brand (it's the best) apple cider vinegar and use 3 tablespoon to 1 pint of water as a final rinse. The coat will be so soft and nice, and repel those nasty fleas. As for nutrition, go to the top and click on Yorkie Health and Diet. Personally home cooking is the best and safest way to feed your dogs. Been home cooking for over 50 years. For clothes, just google tiny dog clothes and you will find a LOT of stores. ![]() ![]()
