| Staring contest Does your yorkie ever just sit and stare at you dead in the eye? Is this a dominant behavior trait? I don't know what it is or why he's been doing it, but lately Capone will just sit and stare at me dead in my eyes without blinking at all for a few minutes straight. Anybody have an experience with this?

| Oh I have staring contests with Uni ALL the time! They are the best! At our shop, if I go into the back, when I come back out, sometimes Uni will be at the front of the shop, but waiting for me to come back out. She is sitting, and if I see her, I will stop dead in my tracks and just stand there and have a contest. I just wait and wait, until all of a sudden she sprints at top speed towards me. It's kind of like she bounces while running, it's too cute!

Seriously, I am not trying to start anything but with all the reading I have done from people that are highly educated in this field..the dominant theory is old school. I have problems with people trying to control with some of this thinking.

| OKay, Im going to try to get this correct, if I miss something perhaps someone can get this correct, if a dog is staring at you its just to look at you to see what your doing its not dominance.. when dogs stare at eachother, they are checking eachother out.... when your dog stares at you , blink , they will normally blink back, dogs even do this to each other to let them know they are cool with one another!! I have a friend who has an aggresive dog, hes not mean just unsure of situations, so he will just look at you almost mean, but if you blink at him and sort of turn your head ( the trainer) said this lets the dog know ( we are cool) , it works really it does!! On another note , sometimes Laci does stare at me but she doesnt " glare " meanly , I just think she is checking me out to see what I am doing!! If your dog is staring at you, blink , they will blink back

| He will just look up at me and we will lock eyes for a long time sometimes he will attack me with kisses. Or we will kind of go back and forth to see which one will go at the other one first, in a playful way. I didn't know if maybe I was encouraging bad behavior, but it seems playful most of the time. Or like hes waiting for me to do something.

| I've always heard that it is a dominate thing. Never done any research on the subject, so I'm no expert.

| Remy and I will stare each other down when he is waiting to play fetch, and I'm not really in the mood LOL. He'll have the toy between his paws, mouth partially open and just stare at me. I stare back. Eventually he gets soooo impatient he bangs the toy on the ground and pushes it toward me... and makes an insistent little squeal ... then I'll play It's pretty funny Oh, when we are staring, if I wink, he will wink back. He's a good winker |

| Both of mine would stare me in the eye when they were begging. Both have done that. It's so cute. I just stare back.

| Ha - yes, Bailey has two stares - the first is a form of begging "aww look at me - I'm so cute - can I have a cookie, please?" And the second is an intense stare - when she'll physically get between me and what ever I'm doing (tv, computer, quilting) with this serious look on her face. I've decided that its begging too - just on a more serious level. Maybe she's just trying to talk to me telepathically? I too, have heard that staring is a dominance thing - but that's not the case with Bailey.

| Sadie stares me down when she's wanting to play like crazy bad. she'll stare at me or rather my hands because she's still such a little mouther...and she'll get down on her front legs with her butt in the air tail a wagging and she'll stare me down and then just take off into zoomies...she's hilarious. |

| Sasha stares at me when he wants something I'm eating. He also does it when he wants me to move over so he can lay down next to me. |
