| Boys vs. Girls What are the differences between Boy Yorkies and Girl Yorkies? In YOUR experience which one would YOU say is easier to... Potty Train? Teach Commands? Less Hyper? More Lovable? A few questions I had about boys... How can you keep them from cocking their leg when going potty? Keep that little wee wee from showing itself? Do they want to mark everything, even after u get them fixed? Thank you everyone!

| Louis was very easy to potty train. He was potty trained before he was 4 months old. He never used potty pads, he only goes to the potty outside. Louis is very lovable, but I am sure that girl yorkies are too. I want to get a girl yorkie next! Last edited by lil louis; 01-11-2010 at 06:43 PM. |

| I have no experence with girl yorkies but all my other dogs growing up were girls. Jackson is my first boy dog and I think all my future dogs will be boys, too! I don't know what it is-- I just love boy dogs. I dogsit for 2 Boxers (males) and they just seem so much more loving, needy and willing to please whereas a lot of girl dogs (of course not ALL -this is a big generalization) are more independent and on their own terms. Jackson caught on VERY quickly to potty training (by 4 months, he was barking at the door) and although he will have an occasional accident, he's trustworthy and 99% potty trained, lol. He only lifts his leg outside on trees, etc where other dogs have been but normally he squats. He's never lifted his leg in anyones house or anything and learns super fast (he knows around 20 tricks so far). But of course girl dogs can/are super smart too! I think both are great and when choosing a dog, you probably shouldn't pick based upon sex but I guess I'm biased!

| I've never had a male Yorkie, but I did have a male maltese. Potty Train? SO EASY! Teach Commands? EASY TOO! Less Hyper? I found him to be the same as my Yorkie girls are. More Lovable? DEFINITELY A few questions I had about boys... How can you keep them from cocking their leg when going potty? I didn't try because he pottied outdoors. Keep that little wee wee from showing itself? His never showed, maybe because he was neutered? Do they want to mark everything, even after u get them fixed? My boy didn't at all. He was such a well behaved, eager to please little guy.

| I have one of each. Although my boy was already potty trained when I got him (1 yr old) I have only had him for about two weeks. But he goes potty outside no problem at all. He is VERY lovable and cuddly! Definitely less hyper then my female. He does play alot with her though. My girl is very hyper, good with going potty outside too but does have accidents occasionally. My boy is also fixed, he doesn't cock his leg often, I've seen him do it a couple times outside but he mostly squats, he was fixed in Nov and he does not mark at all in my house. And I haven't seen his wee wee come out either lol |

| I researched this before getting Winston. He's my first dog. I read that boys are more affectionate than boys, but it might depend on the dog. He doesn't mark & doesn't lift his leg - just never does it. We took a puppy training class & each class focused on a new command - sitting, lying down, come, stay. After the hour he knew what to do, we just reinforced the commands by practing at home. He's good with them if I do the hand motions. He's much better at following the commands when I have a treat in my hand. I just saw his wee wee for the first time the other day & it freaked me out - and he's neutered. We've only had him for 2 1/2 months and he's potty trained - will let us know when he needs to go out, reminds us when it's dinner time & if we're late & knows the commands. In general I think he's a very good puppy & smart. |

| I've got a girl and two boys, all three are unaltered! Our little girl is honestly a thorn in my side! She REFUSES to potty outside if the temperature isn't just right. She is VERY stubborn and I am beginning to think she is completely ntrainable (of course it doesn't help that she is my husband's baby and he undoes all I do)! Lilly is very loveable and she is a wonderful Mommy. We are expecting our third liter on Valentiine's Day! My boys, on the other hand... the only complaint I have about them is that they are rambunctios! Always wrestling and playing... but they want to be right under foot, or in our laps when they play! Both potty trained very young (about three months). Of course it helped that both of them were from Lilly's litters so I raised and trained them from birth. I don't really have a problem with them leg lifting in the house (except when Lilly goes into heat). However, their litte buddies on the belly side to play peek a boo occasionally! I am pretty sure it's because they are unaltered. Both of my boys are extremely affectionate, and always seem to know just when I need a kiss! In my opion... BOYS ALL THE WAY!!! I don't think I would have a girl except that we love breeding and raising Yorkies and Lilly is such a great mommy! |

| We have a boy yorkie Sherman Tank almost 6 months and then we have a girl yorkie Bella Mia 2 years 2 months and then we have a boy pound doggie Yogi 9 years. Bella Mia is 100% my dog. She tolerates the rest of the family and occasionally she will show a bit more affection for the kids 18 (Josh) and 11 (Raeann) and my bf Shaun. She is mean to the cat if she thinks she wont get caught. If someone is crying (useually the 11 year old) she does become a bit motherly as in licking the tears and boogies away. She prances arround the house like a Princess. She is the alpha dog in our house. She occasionally thinks she is the boss of Shaun and the kids but that doesnt fly in our house. She wants to be her own girl, she sleeps under the bed only getting in bed if it is REALLY cold. Sherman Tank is the most loveable, adoreable, endearing, sweet, floppy, goofy, puppy ever. He loves everyone, people, cats, doesnt matter he is truly a love bug! He does lift his leg and mark but only outside. He does not have a favorite person in our family. He thinks we are all great and lets us know it all the time. He LOVES to be with us sleep with us snuggle with us etc. Yogi- he is our ultra mellow dog. He shows no aggression whatsoever ever! He put up with the 5 puppies nipping, chasing, hanging, etc on him and NEVER showed a mean bone in his body. He would just try and hide from the pups. He played with them using his nose to just push them around it was sooo cute. Yogi loves everyone in our family no favorite person. I think our boys are more affectionate to the whole family but Bella Mia makes it known that I am loved to pieces by her. It is like she has dedicated her life to trying to make me happy. This makes it very easy to train her. It seems like she learns her tricks a lot faster than the boys have. She has learned more tricks than the boys have. This is just my experience with our dogs

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I think it all depends on the dog. I have one male that is very loving and one that is wired! I have 2 females that are really loving to. My girl Jenna is calmer than any of the others. My boys do mark everywhere but they are not nuetered. Potty training I think a girl is easier if the boy lifts his leg. My girls can always use a pee pad when if it is bad out..my boys miss it. I have heard that once a male is fixed sometimes he will squat to pee. Well.. I guess I didn't help any.. lol I just really think it depends on the dog. Every one is different. I have a neutered Shih tzu and his wee wee still shows sometimes but he does not mark.

| I have a little girl I've read the replies to your question and it seems that every dog is an individual. I have a 9 mo. old female named Biscuit. I have never loved a dog so much. She is very loving and waits in the window watching for me to come home. She is a mama's girl for sure. She only gets hyper when we instigate play. She loves attention and to be on my lap. She is fairly quiet and does not bark a lot. Biscuit sleeps in her little enclosed "house" at night, and because she is so small (4lbs.) I provide a piddle pad for her ONLY at night. The rest of the day she will go outside. I have bowel trained her by mixing a little people food with her food in the morning only, which makes her poop right away. She won't have to poop for the rest of the day (NICE!). After that, we will take her out at specific times to pee. She hasn't been real good at telling us she has to go, but she'll hold it for about 4-5 hours (sometimes more) and I watch the clock. I don't think she wants to go in the house when she has an occassional accident, I just don't think she knows how to communicate. Yorkies are very easy to love, and extremely smart. |

| I have both & love them all! My boys are so affectionate, so are my girls...but only when they feel like it. I had Turbo neutered when he was 6 months old, so he doesn't mark. He will pee sometimes w/his leg up or down...I've never seen his little wee wee from showing itself lol! I think the major difference about having a boy or girl is the dressing up & putting on matching bows part.
