| New Yorkie POO owner I am a new Yorkie poo owner. Our puppy is only 13 weeks old. I have only had one other dog in my lifetime and it was a lab which was completely different when I was training her. Right now our puppy, Teddy, is a male and I feel clueless in how to train him. We have only had him since Christmas and we are still working on potty training but he does other things too. He is always nipping at our fingers and I read that he is in the teething stage and I have tried giving him a frozen cloth and frozen chicken broth to help numb his mouth but neither seem to be working. Is there anything else I can try? I am also worried because if I go to pick him up or pet him he often runs away. I am never mean with him, never, hit him, never yell and I am not sure why he runs away. I don't know who he came from and how he was treated there because he was a Christmas gift but I feel since he is doing this I am failing in some way. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. |

| Crate training is the best way to go as they will not pee or poop where they eat and sleep. Put their food and water bowl as well as their bed in there, and make sure that you're taking him out every 2-3 hours to potty. Keep an eye especially right after he eats and drinks (and put him on a food schedule to make it easier for you and him, this also trains him how to potty), when he starts to sniff around and turn in circles it's time to go out! Make sure you're using the same words outside like "go potty" or "go pee" over and over so that he associates that with what you're trying to teach him. Try hanging a bell on your front door and make sure you ring it and say your "choice phrase" every time you take him out, and eventually he'll remember to do it himself and let you know when he needs to go!

| Congrats on your new furbaby. You have come to the right place for any questions or help you will need. There are so many knowledgable people on YT you will love it. Are you using pee pee pads? Lexi learned so quickly using the pee pads she almost potty trained herself. As far as nipping I gave Lexi lots of chew toys that helped a lot. I bought a couple from Petco for puppies teething and she loved chewing them there is a little rubber fish that she really liked can't remember the name???? I think he will settle in quickly just remember everything is new to him too...you will be a great mommy. Best wishes hope we get to see a picture Hugs Cheryl & Lexi |

| Welcome to YT. Sorry I can't offer much advice, I adopted Max and he was already trained. I'd love to see pictures of your puppy. Max is a yorkipoo too.

| Welcome to YT! I'm been a yorkiepoo owner since Thankgiving (my boy is 17 weeks old) and fully crate potty trained. I can offer you advice on that if need. As for myboy he bits at my fingers as well. I usually tap him on the nose as to say knock it off and it usually works. As for the running. Cody does that all the time, it usually is a game of "catch me if you can" and eventually I win Anyways welcome to YT! |

| Hey lexipoo what is pee pee bad training? Is it just a pad they go on inside? I have thought about litter training him so he can go to the bathroom inside. We live in MI and lately he hasn't been going outside because it is too cold. I have a jacket for him but like today I took him out and he kept running to the door and I kept trying and figured he didn't have to go so I let him back in but then he came in and went in the house. He also comes in shivering from the outside. Thank you everyone for your input! What exactly is crate training? |

| We are doing pretty good with the potty training. Thank you everyone for your help. I have another question though. My puppy has been itching at his ears and I am guessing they need to be cleaned. How do you clean their ears by yourself. I used to clean my parents black labs ears with a solution from the vet but I am not sure if it is the same with the yorkie poo. Please let me know. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Welcome to YT! Congrats on your new baby! We got Roxy a year ago too & started out crate training & using pee pads. Last winter was too bitter for me let alone for her. Either way works, it's which ever way you want to go. When warmer weather arrived I moved her pee pad outside the door. Later she learned about the grass. I've left the pee pad down for her not knowing how she'd do this winter. She hasn't even paid any attention to it in months. All is outside now. Keep a good variety of toys around for her to chew on, as the teething will continue for the next few months. He'll need them. Roxy used to dive onto any crushed ice that fell from the freezer door. I'd try some good treat to coax him to you. Treats that have a good smell to them. I break Roxy's treats into tiny bits, so she doesn't end up having too many treats & not eat her main diet. There's no telling how he was raised, so you need to make coming to you to be a really good thing to do. Hope you enjoy YT. Check out all the sections for tons of help. You aren't likely to have problems that the rest of us haven't had.

| Congratulations on your new puppy! My puppy Winston is also a yorkiepoo. We've had him since 10/24. He's never peed in his crate, but will occassionally pee in the same spot in the den, by the door. I figure it's my own fault since I didn't take him out in time. I tried wee wee pads but he shredded them & didn't use them. I even tried taping it to the floor & then he just peed next to it. To get him to start going outside someone recommended really praising him as he was sniffing around - "good boy" & stuff like that. It was the only thing that worked. I'm in NY & last night they said it was 5 degrees. I take Winston out, praise him & he goes right away so we can get back inside. He also now will sit near the door & let out a bark to signal me that it's time to go. It took about a month, and like I said, he still will pee on the floor if I ignore his bark. My husband tends to want to use the bathroom/change his own clothes before he brings the dog out and since he's taking so long that's usually when Winston will wind up wetting the floor. |
