I have been hearing a lot about teacup yorkies. . . . I just found out about them. I just wanted to know how much of a difference they are from plain yorkies.

They sound so sweet, and am just curious about them.

There is no difference really. "Teacup" yorkies are basically Backyard breeder "creations" to sell the dog for money. My friend's yorkie Sophie was suppose to be a "teacup" and she ended up getting to 10 lbs. Any yorkie that is standard should be 7 lbs and under so a "teacup" in general is a poorly bred yorkie no doubt. No reputable breeder would advertise there babies as "teacup".

Yorkies come in many sizes.....the AKC standard is 7 lbs, but it is not uncommon for some to be above and below that size. When a "teacup" Yorkie is advertised, they are referring to an extra tiny Yorkie. Most conscientious breeders will not refer to them as "teacups", since they are not a different breed.

when I first sought out the breed and wanted a yorkie I too thoght there was such a thing and just found out the they were little yorkies some of these people want 1000's for these when really they are just a small puppy granted some and alot on here never get to the 7 lbs but a smaller puppy can get just as big as the next smaller puppie so don't buy into that! my Axle is 15 weeks 3.6 pounds and the vet said he probably get to 5.5 or so he was 2.6 pounds when I got him so its just a wait and see how he grows, of course the smaller and cutiest everyone wants including me! he is getting big and I'm hopeing not to much bigger cause i take him everwhere shopping, car shows, auctions etc. and I like the fact that I can put him in my coat and zip it up with just his little head pokeing out so cute....

When someone advertises a teacup they are just money hungry. There is no such thing as a tea cup yorkie and if you buy one you are only paying an outragious amount for a yorkie that you really have no idea of how big it will be full grown.

Teacup is just a word used to describe the tiny yorkies. It is a "cool" word to use and people like yourself fall victim to the word and end up paying extra money because they think they have something that is worth more.

A yorkie is a yorkie whether it be 3 lbs or 10 lbs.

Also please be aware that some of these "teacup" breeders will say a pup is older than it really is to make it seem even more tiny. That is bad news b/c they need to stay with mom until 12 weeks at least.

Other things to be aware of are the health complications that can come with smaller bred yorkies. Yes they are cute and dainty, but many come hypoglycemic and need extra attention and care because of their smaller size. Generally, they don't live as long either.

There are many of healthy 3-4lb yorkies out there as well, just be careful who you buy from.

Teacup is not a breed.. just a word people uses.

Yorkies come in all sizes.

My little girl is very tiny, and everywhere we go people ask if she is a TeaCup. I have to stop and educate people that a "teacup" is not a real term. I started out uneducated, so all we can do is pay it forward, and educate those that don't know.

Your little guy is awful cute! Are you sure he doesn't want a sister?

There are many sad sad storie on here from people who were sold "teacup" yorkie. Some were told the puppy was 10 or 12 weeks and it was only 6 weeks old.

They need so much more care and they are so fragile, mostly you are paying a lot of money for a lot of worry and big vet bills.

Everyone asks if Ella is a teacup as well, I used to try to explain to them, but now just simply say, 'nope! she is just small!'
