| Rio has finally reached 3 lbs!! Rio (9 months old) has always hovered around 2.6-2.7 lbs, but after getting spayed 2 1/2 weeks ago, she's finally gained weight. I always said we would celebrate if she ever got to 3 lbs, and so now it's time for a celebration!!! |

| Can I ask you if Rio went into heat prior to spaying or were you safe to spay her at 9months? I'm in the same situation weight wise as you are. My girl is 5 months and is not even 2 lbs. yet. I'm afraid to spay her at such a small size. The breeder said that due to her size she would go into heat late, like arounda year old or so. Also, at what age did Rio start to lose baby teeth and get adult teeth? I was told later for that too. Thanks. Elaine |

Our vet said she was perfectly safe to get spayed, even at 2.6 lbs. She said the more important thing is that her organs are fully developed in order to handle the anesthesia, not so much her weight/size. We had the pre-op blood work done as well to be sure her liver could metabolize the anesthetic drugs/gases. All went well and she's pretty much recovered - just a little scab on her belly now. | |
