| New Yorkie Hi we just brought home an 8 week old girl for my 7 month old male to have as a playmate.. Problem is he has totally stopped playing with all the toys he loved to play with before, partly cause she just walks right up and takes them. Even if I take them back he won't touch them.. They play fight.. How long will it take for them to get used to each other. I hate seeing him like this.. I show him the same if not more attention than when we brought her home.. Any advice? Thanks |

Now to answer your question. It depends on how you introduced her to your boy pup. But, it will take awhile before they are use to each other and bond. He's been the focus of your life, you've brought in another pup.......

| Just curious. I assume they will get along okay, but won't one become the alpha? |

| She is 9 weeks now we have had her for a week, and she has not had one hypoglycemic attack. And her stool is much better now that she is with us considering the breeder was mixing 4 types of cheap food at once. I read that they can leave at 8 weeks. And she is the more agressive dog. My boy is extremly calm she starts all the issues |

YTCA Code of Ethics and Conduct All puppies leaving the breeders possession will be a minimum of twelve (12) weeks of age to facilitate adequate socialization as well as appropriate emotional and temperament development through interaction with siblings, dam and other dogs. She's a puppy and did not have adequate time to be trained by her mother. Between the age of 8 and 12 weeks, mothers are teaching them how to play, how to behave and where they fall in the pecking order. You'll have to fulfill that function. Hyperglycemia can hit at anytime. She's a baby and needs to be monitored. Your boy is calmer, and she is more assertive. You'll have to give her proper training to insure that she doesn't become a little monster.

| The other reason is that the pup would have probably only had it's first vaccination. Pups shouldn't leave until they've had two and then not let down or taken out in public until 10 days after they've had their 3rd.

| Congratulations on your new baby! There is a wealth of information on this site. (It's save me a vet visit before.) Good luck and enjoy your new baby. |

| I'm sorry I ever asked for advice now on this site. Normally I'm welcomed with nice and polite responses but apparently for you that is too much to ask. To everyone else thanks. My girl is not a monster nor do I plan on letting her become one. I now wish you do not respond anymore to my post. Thanks. BTW I don't see how my mom was going to teach her puppies much since she had 9 in the litter, and there were other dogs in that house around as well and she was already playing with them as she is my own dog now... |

| Congratulations on your new yorkie. I totally understand where you are coming from vntgrose and I might be opening "a can of worms"here. No one is trying to hurt your feelings. While I believe some posters and breeders in general are attempting to warn you of possible implications sometimes it comes off as "raining on your parade". You asked a behavior question and some are trying to explain why you may experience some problems. The fact is you already have your puppy so it's a mute point and it comes off as criticism. Once a cautionary point is stated it doesn't need to be repeated with posts of the same nature. I too brought my Sophie home at 8 1/2 weeks not aware of the suble differences between bringing a toy puppy home and the German Shepard puppies I had. My Sophie is a wonderful, well mannered little girl who doesn't exhibit any of the previously mentioned problems so I think it can go either way. If someone is only researching bringing a puppy home then I agree they should be made aware of certain points but once someone comes on YT after the fact with their "happy" announcement they just want to be welcomed and share their joy. Please don't feel unwelcome and please post photosWe are happy for you!

| Thanks to everyone else for the welcoming wishes my main frustration was only with one of the responders.. I get that she doesn't believe what I did was the way she thinks it should be done, but if we all did everything exactly the same the world would be a bunch of sheeps and no excitement.. lol.. I can say today they are much better he took toys away from her for the first time, her whining is getting better during the times I crate her when I can't watch her 100%.. I did get my other yorkie at 12 weeks and I can say that the only reason the breeder still had him was cause he was the biggest out of the litter he now weighs 9lbs.. He is not fat by any means he is extremly long and tall.. lol.I know that Coco (the new one 9 weeker) has had no signs of hypoglycemic nor do I think she will cause she has so much energy.. Again thanks.. Maybe there is hope they will get along as time will tell it is better today. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Congrats!! I would just give them time to adjust and work it out. Of my 3, I got Cali at 9 weeks, Pixie at 13 months and Roxie at 4 months and Cali is the sweetest. So I think it really depends on the puppy and the situation. My 3 all want to play with the same toy or chew on the same bone so I stopped buying multiples of toys as they learned to share and figure out ways to get the toy from the other one.
