| my mom's new yorkie Last weekend my mom bought teddy for $900. He is supposed to be pure bred, akc, has papers. I asked about his ears because they are kind of big and hang down. They don't stand up like other yorkies I have seen. Earlier I was in a website and they said the ears should never hang down, and this would cause alot of ear infections. His eyes run some of the time and I was told that yorkies and poodles do this. The breeder said she could not get his ears to stand up. Is this a problem? I feel so bad because I fell in love with his sweet personality and feel responsible for my mom's getting this dog. I'm afraid that he may end up being unhealthy and end up costing her a bunch of money that she doesn't have. I'm so confused. Teddy is so sweet and cute, even with his big ears. If anyone can give me any info on this I sure would appreciate it. Thank you. |

| Hi....we are neighbors as I live in San Diego. How old is Teddie? The ears sometimes take time to come up and sometimes they don't ever come up but they are adorble either way imo. We have a yorkie meetup group that meets at a dog park once a month. You should come and meet the other yorkies in SD! Go to http://yorkie.meetup.com/17/ and join. |

| I haven't ever heard about droopy ears being a problem health-wise. My pup's also got permanent floppy's. No ear problems yet, he's 1.2 years old. |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Lots of healthy and adorable Yorkies have ears that don't stand up. In fact, vets often tape Yorkie ears up to train them to stand on their own. I've seen that technique work more than once in the short time I've been on Yorkietalk. Other times, as SoCal points out, they stand up on their own. Talk to your vet. As for runny eyes, that is common too. Some people swear that the hair around the tear ducts can be trimmed, and that takes care of the problem. Talk to a groomer about that. It's easy to panic over these adorable little creatures, but they are remarkably tough. It sounds like your mom has a great little dog there that she will love for years and years to come. Good luck, and keep in touch. Oh, and there's like a law that you have to post pictures. Edit: Oops, Snow Yorkies posted as I was writing my note. Listen to her. She's much smarter than me.

| Hi !! And welcome to YT!!! Some Yorkies ears always stand up. And some don't. They are all so cute. Princess's ears stand up only some times. My vet asked if I was going to show her. I told him I wasn't, he said he could tape her ears to always stand up. Well, after thinking about it, I decided, Would I want tape on my ears? I know it's not painful, but it must feel weird. So, I just let her ears go. They stand, when she want's them to stand, and so be it. She is two years and four months old, and has never had any health problems. I feel I made the right choice. I'm gald you found this site. There are lots of great people here, who really love their babies, and are Very smart about the breed. Please post a picture when you can! And Again, Welcome!

| My Kelsey is yorkie/poodle mix and she has floppy ears and she hasn't had an ear infection. I wouldn't worry too much about that. I just make sure to dry Kelsey really good after bathes or whenever she gets wet. I'll flip her ears inside out to dry them out after I'm done blowdrying her. LOL she doesnt mind it.

| Chachi....that is such a cute picture of your Yorkies.....My Zoe has floppy ears...and yes she does have ear infections...but when we got her she had two massive ear infections...so I don't think it has anything to do with the floppy ears....just a health issue with her. |
