| Please Help Me! Capone had been scratching and scratching. He's misierable and it hurts me to see him like this. The vet said it was allergies, but nothings working not shots or pills or anything they've recommended. It breaks my heart to watch him scrtach and whine. His hair is falling out. It's not noticiable but I find clumps of brown fur in my bed and theres silver fur everywhere and yorkies are supposed to be non shedding. I'm so sad for him, does anybody have any home remedies or anything that could help? Please. any suggestions would help.

| What kind of food do you feed him? If it has corn or corn by products that can make him itchy and scratchy. Has he been allergy tested? Has he been tested for mites? Have you looked over him good, and I mean good, for fleas? They can be hard to see so you may have to get him wet to see if he has fleas but they can cause flea dermititis and that would be similar to what you are describing. There are certain areas of the country with terrible flea problems right now where they normally don't have trouble. |

| Okay, the antihistamines didn't work, right? Then what did they go to? Steroids? If yes, how long has he been on them? Has a skin scraping been done for mites? Or a trial of ivermectin or selamectin? Cytology been done (tape the skin and look at the tape under a microscope)? Yeast infection been ruled out?

| Sorry to hear about your puppies allergy issues. It is hard to watch them be so misreable. You might want to reasearch putting him on a raw diet. I have heard a lot of success stories of dogs with skin and allergy issues resolving after eatting raw. Allergies are a product of a comprimised ammune system and the raw apparently builds the system up and in turn resolves a lot of issues. I am sure others may have expereince with this as I have only heard of these stories. Good luck |

| Try removing the chicken and the rice...one of my girls gets very itchy and licks her feet a lot when I feed her chicken and rice. There are also better dry foods you can feed...eukanuba isn't a very good food. |

| I went through this with Lilo. She was itching herself all the time, to the point of making herself bleed and scab. I finally had to bite the bullet and spend the money and have her allergy tested (the skin one, not the blood). Turns out she is allergic to everything outside, different trees, weeds, dust mites, dust, molds/fungi, and the list goes on. She has been on allergy shots and a perscription strength antihistamine for about a year and is doing much better. She has her flairups when certain things are in bloom, but they are nothing on what they were. Find a dermotologist in your area and see what they think....good luck, i know it is hard!!!

| forgot to ask.....have you tried eliminting certain things from his diet? i tried many foods before we got her tested. that will be the first thing the dermotologist will ask. start with chicken, as that is the most common protein dogs are allergic to. you have to eleminate it 3-6 weeks before you can see a change sometimes.

You may be dealing with airborne allergies, not food allergies, though. Inhalant allergies are far more common. If his symptoms don't improve with a switch in food, I'd consult a dermatologist like Lucirbc mentioned. | |

| How often are you bathing him and what are you using? I recommend using Selsun Blue shampoo to help with the itching. You might need to use it every other day until the itching is under control. |

Do food allergies just appear out of no where? He loves chicken and I've always fed him that even before the itching started. I will try to get rid of it and see what happens. The vet has been no help in answering my questions, it's very frustrating.

I know it's not the best, but its one of the few he will actually eat. I bought a vey expensive bag of wellness and he never would eat it only a few kibbles a day so I went back to the eukanuba. He only eats kibble about 2-3 times a month. Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm going to cut out the chicken and see what happens now.

| Food allergies can develop over time. Try eliminating chicken. Read all labels, treats and everything. Give it a good 3 weeks before you give up. Also, try and see another vet. I honestly cannot believe that he/she has not recommended to try another protein?!?!?! When Lilo started with this, i had to go to another vet, and we love him. He had us start with the food and then we ended up at ther dermo about 2 months later....pm me if you have any questions. I learned alot going through this process!

| In addition to removing chicken from his diet I would also recommend adding Omega 3 & Omega 6 oils to his food. Good luck with this, I know first hand how miserable this can make them.

| this might help with the itching but only short term. Burned flour just put some of it on a skillet and shove it around until it turns brown then let it cool and brush it into his fur and on his skin it should relieve the itching for a few weeks and give you some time to find out the problem
