| Just got my new Yorkie! Help lol Okay so i just got my new little bundle of joy, her name is Mee-kah, she is being currently crate train and she is doing so good!! She was born on August 21, 2009 so shes only about 10 weeks, she is going to do her business more outside then inside the house, she is sleeping in her crate this morning was her first day sleeping from 11-7 am she did so good! Im so happy with her. I do have another dog he is a beagle/pekignese he is also adorable i wanted to mention him because its incredible how much these pets bring you joy and happiness unconditional through anything. Okay so here is my little issue, its happened twice where she goes poop and it does get stuck in her little hairs (around how anal area), & when she goes pee she always steps on pee and drags it on her tiny paws, i do clean her with whipes but i wanted to know what can i do to stop this from happening? ALSO her ears seem kind of floopy to me, they dont stand up all the way they bend down, i dont know how to shave her ears, i had been reading that people shave her ears and with masking tape, they tape them up?... i might not be very crafty here im scare to touch her ears & cut her..with a razor??? I have never had a pup with long hair as my little sharpie has short hair and never got it pee'd or poo'ed.... please advice and help very well appreciated and any other pointers to try to get my new baby in shape and in perfect condition. Another thing, the breeder i got her from, told me she should be 5 pounds or smaller because both parents are 5 pounds, how accurrate is this? When i took her to petsmart and weighed her the other day after she had eaten ect she was 3.5 at 9 weeks..... for some reason i feel she will be larger.. can some one guide me on this? Thank you! |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk . I think she will be a Tea Pot, i.e., large Yorkie.

| Welcome aboard. You are going to have so much fun here. I'm sure more knowledgable poeple are going to jump in and answer your questions. I personally have never dealt with droopy ears, but I know they can be taped up. If the poo gets stuck too often, you can perhaps trim the hair around the bum. I do that for my dogs all the time. And as for the chart, try this: Yorkshire Terrier - Yorkie Puppy Growth/Weight Chart - watch us grow

| :) The thing about her weight that has me taken back is that 1lb was when she weighted when she was 8 weeks, at 9 weeks when i took her she was at 3.5 which i averaged at 2.5 or 3 just because she had just eaten when i took her & i remember when taking Sharpie in (my other pup) he would hange his weight alot when he ate from when he had been weighed with out eating i guess i was trying to apply the human technique there lol.. but either way what ever she grows up to be i will love her just the same, my husband and I love her like our little girl (you can tell we dont have kids lol) |

| hey there. for peeing and pooping messes i don't think you can really change their bathroom behavior, only wipe paws and butt at the end each time. that's what we have to do. she walks through her pee too and she sometimes gets poop stuck to her butt. we use wipes to get it out, but you should also either take the pup to the groomer and have them trim her anal area and also they can shave the ears with trimmers, or you can buy some trimmers (i think beard trimmers for men work!????) and you can just shave off the very tips of the ears and also you can then see where her ears/hair is and take scissors (rounded top ones) and trim the hair into a V on the tip of the ears. also for trimming backside, you just hold the tail erect in one hand and use the scissors and trimmer to trim up the buttox area and in between the legs, also you can scissor the privates if needed so pee doesn't get the hairs all wet. for the question about age see this chart: Yorkshire Terrier - Yorkie Puppy Growth/Weight Chart - watch us grow it appears she will be over the 7 lbs standard, so tea pot indeed i would guess about 8 lbs or so..but u never know, Sadie is 2 lbs. 5 ounces now at 20 weeks old, some say she'll grow to 10 lbs when they saw her at 3 months they say to take weight, double it and add one pound. so should should have been about 5 lbs...but i don't think she will be. i'm thinking now she'll be about 3.5 max!! hope this helps and congrats your girl is beautiful!! |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk! You can also massage her ears, I did this to my little one and soon "pop" one came up then a short time later the other followed. Best wishes

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Double her weight at 12 weeks will give you a close estimate of her adult weight. Although if she is 3.5 at 10....it's likely she'll be at least 7 pounds as a adult. Genetics goes back beyond just her parents. She does have a lot of hair on her ears weighing them down. You shave them with clippers. A mustache trimmer works nicely. You can get one from a drug store for about 20 bucks. Using scissors trim the edges close to the ear cartlidge. Use the trimmer. to shave around her bum and that'll help with cling ons too and you can use it on her paw pads...which will make it a little better if she steps in urine.

| Oh your babies are adorable! I would take her to a groomer for shaving her ears and trimming the hair on her feet and under her tail, that will help with the pottying issues. If you want to try grooming her on your own there are some good videos of people doing their dogs you can watch for tips. She will probably stop stepping in her pee as she grows up, until then you try wiping or rinsing them....For the floppy ears you can try massage and giving her a little cottage cheese for the calcium, hopefully they will come up on their own.

| You need to keep her rear trimmed up so that poop cannot stick to it, but do not trim too close as it can irritate her rear. I never did anything with my dogs ears as they can be up and down until after they get their permanent teeth. My dogs ears have never been trimmed or shaved as I like his ears with lots of hair. They should eventually stand up on their own. |

| The potty tips everyone else gave you were good but I wanted to give you my own experience with taping the ears. Yes, shave the tips and if you want, tape them but some people say to make a ear shaped stint to get them to stand...the problem with that is 1) it's REALLY hard to get a wiggly little puppy to be still long enough to put in a stint and 2) you can cut off the circulation to their ears. We used thick gauze folded in half when we taped Tucket's ears and we only had to do it for half a day when his started popping up on their own a few weeks later. They can come up on their own but it doesn't hurt to give them a little help Yorkies are adorable either way but I personally think that they are a lot more expressive with their ears up. Congrats on the new puppy. Your babies are beautiful! |

| Welcome - she is adorable! My Zoey had a floppy ear and one half flopped over. I fell head over heels in love with her and accepted it was just her way..... Now, they both stand perfectly erect and I did nothing at all. I am sure more experienced folks have advice on the potty issue. ~Denise

Your pup is 12 weeks of age.....she's chunky still from milk fat and eating alot..... All depends on her lineage, was she line bred.....father & mother's weight and size figure into it....but, so do grandsire and granddam and great grandsire and great granddam......and then you need to consider there are so many other breeds that went into the makeup of the yorkshire terrier.....anything can happen.....There are lines that grow up front that and then stop at about 5 months of age......and then there are lines that take an extra growth spurt at a year......so many things factor into this wonderful world of yorkies. Google Jo-Nan Yorkies.....Cookie Rogan's website.....she'll explain ears, how to shave and how to tape up. You do need to keep the weight off of them. Trim the hair around her lil anal opening. Shaving her ears....go to Sally's and get a Whal Peanut...pretty safe and full proof....you can shave her ears with it and not worry about cutting, also her foot pads.
