| I can't believe I am even THINKING about this! My Fergus is 11 months old and has a GREAT coat. silky, doesn't tangle very much, easy to keep up with (baths every 10 days or so, regular brushing, top knot) But recently he has been getting into EVERYTHING outside. Sticker bushes (try getting a thousand little sticker buds out of a yorkie's coat!), pine needles, the brush... I have a yard that is MOSTLY cement and a pool...but every little weed or plant that grows on the edges, or in the grass he is into. So...I have a groomer appointment scheduled for tomorrow...I am thinking of getting him cut (actually cut, not just pads and ears trimmed). He is such a little ball of energy, I don't want to curtail it...but I love his long coat! So....any suggestions? My teapot Hamish is trimmed and we love him to bits, I just wanted a longer coat on Fergus...but now, I am thinking maybe its too much trouble (for him, more than me) because he loves running around outside with his brothers and he hates the constant grooming that his penchant for getting into the briers is causing... If you have pics that is great too! I am just wringing my hands about this... maybe a mid lenght trim? instead of a short cut?? Help!

| I think a long coat is sooo beautiful but not for my puppy, she has a very fluffy cottony coat... she looks like a giant dust mop , she loves to run , play catch, fetch, play in the leaves, we go for walks in the dog park every day so a long coat is not practical for her at all!! On another note, she does NOT like to be brushed to much.. I have her shaved leaving her face big and full like a teddybear, her legs are also long and fluffy , kind of like she is wearing chaps.. I love a short cut if you have a active dog but I love a full face!!

| I dont like to keep up with the long coat so I keep mine short. Besides I like a groomed look and they look ratty most of the time when their hair is long. The face hair is longer than the body

| I really like both looks. Missy's coat is long, but if she were getting into weeds and bushes, I wouldn't hesitate at all to cut it off. Yorkies look adorable with a short cut, just like little teddy bears.

| OK, I got the groomer appointment...she is coming at noon tomorrow. I was online for 3 hours tonight finding pics of haircuts like I want him to have....I don't want him just shaved down! I took 3 pics, put them on a page with specific instructions (face like this, body this lenght, ears, etc). I laid it all out in black and white as well as with pics....I have to trust it will work. I am going to do it....but I may end up crying all afternoon if I hate it! Wish us luck and I will post pics when its over (if I am not inconsolable!)

| Try it short, just remember if you don't like it, it will eventually grow back |

| We have had little bella groomed already!! she is only 13 weeks old!! just more to get to know the groomer and get her paws trimmed and face trimmed a little.. But my hubby and i are on different sides of the fence as to what we are going to do with her.. leave her longer or keep her shorter... since its virtually ME that takes care of her (feeds here, picks up after her messes and whatever else) i think we will keep her short while she is a puppy and younger.. then maybe when she is a little older and not so spunky (are they ever not so spunky, hehee) then maybe try the longer look.. but you guys are true when you say that "lion cut" is so flippin adorable!!! |

make sure you explain what you'd like very clearly to the groomer. the first time milu got a short cut, i thought i explained VERY clearly to the groomer, but i ended up not liking the cut. so you can't be clear enough, part of this is learning how to communicate with your groomer. so if she/he doesn't get it right the first time, don't feel too bad, hair WILL grow back (pretty fast too!) and if there is something you don't like, ask them politely how to let them know next time you don't want that done. the first time milu got groomed, i spent some time afterwards asking the groomer how to explain what i want better next time.
