My Yorkie hates other dogs I adopted a 1 l/2 year old yorkiepoo from a rescue. I also have a 5 year old Yorkie. They get along very well - play all the time. My problem is when I walk them, my yorkiepoo (female) goes "crazy" when she sees another dog. She barks and lunges at them. I would like to walk the dogs peacefully, but my yorkiepoo barks and goes crazy when she sees another dog. She has tried to attack big dogs. I have tried the clicker and treats but nothing works. Any advice?

Cesar Milan just did an episode about this exact thing. I wish I could remember what his advice was but he had the dog trained within just a few minutes and they were exactly like what you are describing. Maybe do a little research and try to find the episode? Sorry..not much help!

I share your problem -- my feisty 1 year old Yorkie hates other dogs. When we encounter another dog on our walks, Max starts barking madly and strains on his harness. The bigger the dog, the bigger the reaction. (Max won't waste his energy on the miniature daschund that barks at him) Standing in front of Max to block his view of the other dog helps. I have been trying a new method of engaging the other dogs with the same affection that I use to talk to Max. When I call out to the other dogs, "Hi puppy doggy, hi beautiful," Max calms down, at least a little bit. It doesn't always work, but it helps. The other dogs' owners probably think I'm nuts, and I'm pretty sure they think I have the most rotten dog in town.

It's a training program that started in Australia. A trainer comes to your house and works with you and comes back as much and often as you need. We had a one year contract but are going to extend it for his lifetime. My friend had 3 dogs and she had a different trainer from there come out to her house and she said they worked wonders They give you a lot of tips on how to fix the problem and show you how to do it, and then you need to practice. The website is Dog Training: Bark Busters Home Dog Training
