Fireworks Night approaching.!! - YorkieTalk.com Forums

Hi..not sure about celebrations around the world for Bonfire Night..but here in U.k. November 5th is fast approaching...My Dustie is already startled by any loud noise...so I am getting a bit worried about what to do ..

With my other yorkies..they used to run around the house and bark like crazy..one I had to get tabs from my vet to calm him down.

I don't like fireworks ...but I don't want him to sense this...and as we live in a Bungalow..they will be going off all around for most of the evening and possibly all the following weekend.

Not sure how to approach this first November 5th for him...because what I do now will obviously affect future years.

Any advice...?

You can take him to the vet and get him a pill that will calm him down for the night, or you can get Rescue&reg Remedy - Official Site i havent tried it but I have heard it works... if you are going to be home you can just be with him and comfort him....

You could ask your vet about a DAP defuser, my previous yorkies were terrified of fire works, I tried these when they first came out and they helped alot though you need to get one soon as they take a couple of weeks, also I read on another site that vets now have a non-sedative pill which makes them feel happy and relaxed, dont know what its called though, does help if you can stay calm and relaxed too.

Hi, I just posted a thread about my yorkie being on me as i type, because there are fireworks going of outside....she is shaking and panting, it's like she's going to have a attack!
She wasn't this bad last year, I don't want to encourage this but think she need cuddles!
Poor lill thing, she's really scared.

I'm thinking that fatigue and distraction might be your best friends during this time. They say a tired dog is a happy dog; even if you aren't able to go outdoors to play because of the noise, some indoor fetch might wear your dog out so that he/she will sleep through most of the festivities. Also, buying a special treat that is time consuming, like a Kong toy filled with treats or peanut butter, might be helpful.

There is another thread started about this also but Lee posted good advise on that one...put a tee-shirt or wrap them in something..which is suppose to help them. I also believe you should make them feel protected..the same way you would with a human child..and if their cage makes them feel safer or your lap do which ever makes them relax.

I find that Ace-Pro is not effective, nor is Rescue Remedy. I hear people rave about Rescue Remedy, but I have tried it on quite a few pups for different things and never had success. Ace-Pro just makes them SO goofy. I hate that stuff unless there is nothing else that can be done.

I have tried them myself with the same results...and if my memory serves me right I thought one of them had a lot of alcohol in it....but I could be wrong as it has been so long since I tried them.

It could only be the Rescue Remedy. I looked at their website and cannot find ingredients listed.

OK...I just found a blog that said that the Rescue Remedy for humans has alcohol as a preservative. I also found a link for it for pets that says it is alcohol free.

I read awhile back of a dog dying from Rescue Remedy....I've used it for a dog that had to be calmed down before ring time, he was extremely hyper.....it didn't work.

What I like about this is there is no drug hangover.
