Hey, Lately Ive noticed my 2 boys who turned 4 years old Sept 1st... seem to be going through a change of 'shape' on their little bodies. They are not overweight at all, but it seems they are becoming more barrel-chested (lack of a better word) and their front legs are more spread out due to this. Ive seen other Yorkies who look like this, I'm not worried about it, but is this something that commonly happens? They are looking more boxy and rounded I guess.

Hmmm....Fiona is still young, and I haven't noticed that with her- If it becomes a problem, I would call your vet!

I haven't read about this before, can you take a picture to show us what you mean? One thing I thought of was Joey's breeder told me that most people cut the nails way too long, and eventually this causes the feet to spread, and this can cause a different walk. I doubt if this has anything to do with what you are saying, I just thought I'd mention it.

Thanks for the info! I don't really know what I mean... I notice it more with my little guy Dexter, he was so tiny and puppy rounded, now he seems to be more squared in the chest area... maybe it's just me. It just seems he went from a little puppy body to a DOG body! hahaha This probably makes no sense!

Lol, maybe it makes more sense than we think. I guess as they mature they could look more adult-like, and some yorkies have sturdier bodies than others. I wonder if this is a question that the breeders might be able to answer they are much more aware of "body structure."

Yeah I was thinking you know how chocolate labs (probably all labs) get bigger as they get older, like their bodies get bigger? I was wondering if Yorkies kind of change shape as they mature. Maybe it's just his new haircut that makes him look this way.

Being overweight can make a dog look more barrel chested, here's a good website that shows examples of that. Available Dogs--K9 Station and AuxArcs Aussies However with Yorkies, you can change the appearance so much with a change of haircut, it's very possible it could be the haircut. Joey's new haircut makes his chest look very tiny.

I think I kind of know what you mean. Capone turns 1 on the 28th and I thought he was probably gaining weight, but when I took him to the vet he actually lost a little bit. He's more stocky looking than before, it's kind of weird. I just figured he was growing out of his puppy body. I wish he could be a puppy forever (minus the chewing stage =))

YES!!! Thats what I mean... only my Dexter is 4 years old. Maybe he changed later in life!
