Your vet should tell you, but not before 6 months.

rabies vaccine can be given any time after 4 months old. its up to you and your vet to decide when exactly is right. i wouldn't do it on a day when other vaccines are given. I had morgan's done two weeks after her last distemper vaccine.

I recommend that my new families not have their new pups innoculated with the rabies vacine until 6 months of age. My vet only administers a 1/2 dose and a full dose a year later.

that's great that you can get your vet to only give them a half dose. the general practice ones i know won't do that. "the law is the law" blah blah blah.

Both my vets are breeder vets and follow Dr Dodd's vaccination protocol. Both are toy dog specialists. And since I do my own vaccinations on my pups and a vet check prior to they're going home all that is needed is their rabies. Most of my families use my vet too.

The law is the law, blah, blah, blah.....they aren't investigated anyway. The only time the law comes into play is when the rabies vaccine is given and they send the info to Animal Control....then Animal Control steps in with their hand out for registration/license fee.

i remember when i worked at the animal shelter we had books upon books filled with rabies and license numbers. didnt know how we got them at the time but they were helpful when searching for owners when dogs came in with tags. i think a lot of the hospitals in my town give the info to animal control. i worked at two of them and we did give clients the rabies tag so i guess that info went to AC as well.
