| Question for using blade/comb on clipper Good morning everyone, I have a very stupid question but here goes anyways. I notice when you use a clipper on your yorkie you always go down with the hair. Can you go up against the hair with a comb on top of your blade?? I asume you can but just want to make sure... I know silly question right!! Thanks for your feedback. oh and another question what blade/comb size should i use for her body if i want a longer cut?? i know the bigger the number the shorter the cut, so should i go for like a #3 or so?? Thanks again

Donating YT 10K Club Member | You still clipper down the body with blades attached. My blades aren't like yours apparently...cause the larger the blade the longer the cut is on mine and they aren't numbered 1, 2, 3....mine are 8, 10, etc. w/ the approximate length printed on the lefthand corner.

| Yeah, i was readin if you buy a blade #40 it shaves really close to the skin and then for example #10 is not as close to the skin and then you have the options to buy combs to put on top. Thanks for your help

My metal blade isn't removable...that may be the big difference here. If I wanted to completely shave down..I would raise the blade and use without a comb. I do that with ears. For the body...I just use the attachment combs.

| Oh i see I bought an Andis supper 2 speed and the blades can be removed and other ones can be place instead.. thats probably why we confused each other..LOL its ok i understand how yours works.. so basicaly you get different cuts from adding the comb and moving the blade forward or backwards

There are quite a few videos on youtube which show you how to use clippers. They even tell you the size blade they use.

| What blades #'s did you get? You're right, the higher the #'s the shorter the cut. A #40 is a surgical blade, cuts very close to the skin, we use this for the paw pads. #10 is for sanitary areas. When you order from petedge, it'll tell you how much length it'll leave. It also says it on the package of the blade. You always want to go w/the grain, meaning you don't want to start cutting from the base of the tail up your baby's back. It should be from the base of the neck towards the base of the tail & always watch out for those danger points like the flappy skin between their legs. There's some great tutorials on grooming in the grooming forum.

| Thanks... I was told that if you use a clip on comb that you should use the blade #30 underneath so it cuts better and then if you just want to cut straight with the blade then use #10 for sanitary area and then lower for the body so it will be a longer cut... Thanks again and i will watch that video...

| Yes, you can use a 40, 30, or even a 10 under a comb. Did you get the Andis combs? Those are affordable, for a pack of 8 different size combs, I think it's about $20. I would get the comb & lay it flat on your baby's back & see how much hair it'll catch & cut off. Then I would start w/a longer comb & work down to shorter ones, that way you can choose your desired length. Ceramic edge blades keeps cooler but needs to be resharpened more often than ultraedge. Ultraedge blades do get hot, so be careful, but they don't need resharpening as often. Resharpening blades costs about $5~6. If you're using it only for home grooming, it'll last a life time, might not even need to be resharpened.

| I bought the Oster 2 speed PowerMax from Petedge. The only two blades you need are a #10 and #40. I also got a set of combs and one #10 comb which is 1 and 1/4 inch. So far this is the only comb I have used on Gracie and I like the length of it rather than a shorter cut. Hope this helps.
