| New Member Hello Everyone, My name is Maria and I live in Wisconsin. Our family has no pets, but we are looking into adopting a Yorkie. I have some questions and I would appreciate any responses: 1.) We live on a VERY busy street . Do Yorkied run if a door is opened? What changes,(besides moving,) can we make to prevent this from ever happening 2.) My sister is 5 years old, Do yorkies do well with children? She is very gentle and will not be rough. 3.) Does anyone know about how much it costs to put a fence in? We are going to need one in our back yard. 4.) How do we go about finding a responsible breeder? 5.) At what age should we bring our new puppy home? Thank You in advance for any answers... I look forward to talking with you guys! Maria |

| Hi Maria welcome to YT! Lets see if I can help with some answers for you.. 1. yes, yorkies will run and FAST. If it is possible to block access to the door by keeping your dog gated in other rooms that would be best. Training is essential. 2. 5yrs old is younger than many breeders will allow for yorkies in the home. If you do find one, try to make sure it is a larger, sturdier dog and always monitor their interaction. 3. Fence costs vary greatly by size, type and location. ex-pens are an affordable temporary solution for outside play time. 4. A good start is reading good info here, the site www.buyingapuppy.com has good questions to help you interview breeders and the www.YTCA.org has a list by area of member breeders. 5. Minimum age for a pup to be released to a new home is 10 weeks, though 12 is better. Hope this was helpful. |

| Welcome. I will ditto comments made. My grandchildren are 2, 5, 10, 14 all of them love my two. Chloe is 6 lbs and Lacey is 3, so the biggest issue I have is making sure Lacey isn't handled roughly, all with good intentions, of course. The smaller the yorkie, the more delicate, so when you talk to a breeder make sure you see the parents and inquire further if you can. A larger yorkie might fit your family better than a tiny one. I did not have a fence for a long time, daily walks on a harness works just as well if you can do it a lot in the beginning, if you get a puppy. |

| 1.) We live on a VERY busy street . Do Yorkied run if a door is opened? What changes,(besides moving,) can we make to prevent this from ever happening i guess it depends but I have never had trouble....gracie wants to stay right next to me....you just have to be very careful with the front door!!! and make sure she is always on a leash when outside 2.) My sister is 5 years old, Do yorkies do well with children? She is very gentle and will not be rough. My experiences with Gracie and kids have been wonderful!!! She is very gentle, and patient with them...she would bite a little at first but just puppy bites nothing vicious 3.) Does anyone know about how much it costs to put a fence in? We are going to need one in our back yard. not a clue.... 4.) How do we go about finding a responsible breeder? just ask LOTS of questions....talk to other people who have gone through breeders to find the best one 5.) At what age should we bring our new puppy home? they say 12 weeks....but we got gracie at 8 weeks and she was fine Thank You in advance for any answers... I look forward to talking with you guys!
