YorkieTalk Newbie! | Bathing my 6 wk old Is there a such thing as bathing him too much? I've bathed him 2/4 days that I've had him. I notice that he sleeps also right after for a good 1 or 2. |

| For a young puppy like that I'd probably only bathe every 1-2 weeks if possible.

| I only bath Alfie when he is filthy I have had working dogs in the past and have always been advised to bath only when they are dirty and smelly. Too much bathing will wash the natural oils from their body and can possibly cause skin complaints, also the oils work into their fur and give good waterproofing and insulation. Only my personal view, others may differ from my view. |

| Oh boy is he young and you already have had him almost a week He is just a baby and could not possibly be getting dirty since he shouldn't be outside for more than going quick potty. He is not properly immunized to be taking anywhere other than your backyard. Why is it that he needs so many bathes When my little Doodlebug was first home and a gave him a quick bath he would be so cold and would shiver and shake afterward I would wrap him up and keep him warm in a fluffy towel straight out of the dryer. Please be very careful with him he is so very, very young.

| He is awfully young and I personally wouldn't be bathing him that much. My puppies are 6.5 weeks old and have yet to get a bath although i am going to give them one soon. I would not be bathing him more than once every 2 weeks at this point. |

| It is not good to bathe them too much. They could get dry skin and get itchy from it. I say every 3-4 weeks is fine. Why are you bathing so much anyway? He is very young and is not going outside yet. How dirty could he be? You need a mild puppy shampoo. Good luck with him we would love to see pictures. Congratulations on your new addition

YorkieTalk Newbie! | Thanks all, I said nothing about him going outside. The household that originally had him reeked of and illegal drug. The owners are very "70's". There was no way I was going to let him go a 1 1/2 without bathing. Thankfully our vet has been very helpful. We'll talk to yall in a couple weeks! |

| Oh my gosh, someone sold you a 6 week old puppy? Please you are over bathing this little one and most 6 week olds do sleep for a good part of the day. They will run and play for a short while and then go sleep for a couple of hours and then eat and play for a short period and go and sleep again.

| I was under the assumption that you were bathing him to make him sleep. Maybe not. But anyway you also said that you bathed him 2 out of the 4 days you have had him. To answer your original question without anymore comment then YES you are bathing him way too much!! Nuf said.

| Hi and Welcome to YT! I think at this point if your little guy needs to be cleaned up - a warm wash cloth and then a warm, dry, towel would be good. It's important that they don't get chilled. Please only use tearless puppy shampoo - the rest are too harsh for him right now. I think there's some puppy cologne that you can lightly spray in between washes if he's smelling a little stinky You can over bathe any dog but mine get a bath weekly and twice a week if they really get stinky but they are 3 and 2 years old. Congratulations on your new baby!
