im so frustrated

i was over my friends house this weekend and lexi ran off her porch down
the street. she did not respond to my calling her at all. she ran under a car
and into the street and a car was coming, i just lost it, i thought i would she my baby splatterd in the street. i finally grabbed her cause went into an
alleyway of house. i yelled at her and spanked her. i know i shouldnt have done that, but i was terrified,, i need help" what do i do, she does not come when i call her.. any other time she is up my a--... never leaving me alone..
please , i need advise on this.. she does not listen to me...my heart almost came out of my chest....

I know how you feel - Chanel ONCE ran into my front yard and I screamed so loud she actually stopped ....but I was so ready to run in front of a car to protect her....I realy would have....They scare us to death when they break loose like that - they are VERY fast and many yorkies just act on impulse -

I know people have luck with training classes - I've never gone to any myself but maybe you may want to think of trying a puppy class ? I think you could home train her also but I sure am no expert on this as mine listen to me only if I sound petrified and panicked.

Sorry that happened to you! I know that was scarey! My Bentley was almost a year old before he finally started coming when he was called. Maybe you could keep her on a leash just to be on the safe side until she learns.

lol....... too funny (not the funny splattered part... you just put it in a funny way )
you could always put a LONG leash on her (maybe one of the extenda leashes or a really long peice of rope and take her out and call her..... if she doesnt come just tuf on the rope/leash a little bit and again and again until she finaly comes back and do lots of praise
this is the way i did it with toby and now he is allowed to be off leash certain places and i dont have to worry about stupid idiots coming over and leaving the door open

That little girl of your sounds like she is running you ragged!
It is important to teach them a few basic commands that
they will always respond to in case of such an incident as you
described above. If you are having no luck in training her by
yourself I would suggest you definitely get her into a basic
obedience class where they can show you how to teach her
so she will respond to you.

How scary, i bet you were so terrified. Im glad that she is fine. Gucci Listens to me sometimes. I agreed, I think an obedience class is a very good idea.

Orinskye that is, my boys come immediately when called. I bought a long lead for each of them, hooked them to my belt when I got home each night and then frequently would call them, if they did not come, I reeled them in and gave them a treat. Now they come running when I call, it took several weeks, but I can open my front door and let the boys out in the courtyard and when I yell come here, they come.

I know this is frustrating and I can breath a sigh reading that Lexi is ok and nothing serious happened.

Training is an on going process with no perfection. But...I do agree with the other posts in regards to using a longer leash/tie out. It does work. Infact, I need to practice this exersize myself with Schatzie. She is becoming let's just say a tad attitudish!!

I have read many books and watched training shows that highly recommend using this process in training the "come" command.

Oh, I'm so glad she's okay! Once, when my brother was home for the summer his friends came over, and he didnt listen to me when i said pick up Tucker before you open the door!! (there was a huge rottie and pitbull loose across the street) And OF COURSE, he opened the door and out went Tucker!! I was panicking!!! I flew out the door and finally caught him down by the street. my heart was beating so fast, and gosh I wanted to slap my brother, lol. But I feel your pain,and I hope you get her trained!!
