| Hi there can someone please help :) Hi there everyone! I'm damandoree and I've just created my account so I'm new to YorkieTalk, and this is my first post. To begin with, I have a question and hope you guys can help me. My yorkie is 8 months old and she's called Mab; she's very cute and loving and extremly active and playful. This summer we're planning a voyage to Greece, by plane and we'll be staying there a month. It'll be Mab's first flight so I'm kinda nervous about it. Unfortunately, the company we're flying with does not allow pets in the cabin so she'll stay in cargo during the flight (aprox.1 hour, then change planes and then another hour). I've heard all sorts of stuff about sedatives and travelling with pets so I'm a bit scared....Can anyone please help me and give me some advice ? Thanks.

| First off I would like to welcome you to Yorkie Talk! It is a terrific place to be. You will get answere to all your questions here. I unfortunately don't have any experience flying with my Baxter, so I really can't answers your questions. But someone here will be able to soon. Good luck and hope to see pictures of your furbaby.

| I've only flown with Kaia in cabin and I've gone one way not sedated (which was really horrifying) and then I gave her half of the recommended dosage the other way. Unfortunately, Kaia freaked so much off the anxiety medication, she vomited a few times and shook. It was a really long flight so I figured it'd be best for her to sleep. I didn't have the best flight conditions either, both during icky weather and 5 hours on bumpy flights even gets me super anxious. I have also heard horrible things about cargo'ing a pet. With a small sized dog, I'd *personally* consider booking travel with a carrier that only allows pets in cabin. If you can't change your flight (I know most flights charge for cancellation.) I would read this: Ask George: Tips For Pets Flying in Cargo? | TravelPost Blog It says from the blog about sedation: 1. Do not tranquilize your animal. The biggest danger for pets traveling by air, especially in the cargo hold, is dehydration. Tranquilizers dehydrate animals even further, making it especially dangerous to medicate them for air travel. Many airlines will not even take a pet they suspect has been tranquilized. Yes, the experience of air travel can be traumatic, but your animal will get over it. Better not to take the more grave risk to its health. Best of luck and post some pictures when you get a chance! I'm quite envious that you get to spend a month in Greece, be sure to update us on the adventure =)

| I fly with mine, but only in the cabin. I am concerned about the whole "cargo area" thingy. Plus I do not like mine out of my site, especially when other people are around. I would try and see if there are other airlines that may allow your pets on board. Oh and welcome to YT |

| Thanks a lot for everything guys, you're so nice Next monday I'm taking my little one to the vet, I guess I'll ask for his opinion too and see what's the best for little Mab considering the thing that the entire "flying adventure" will take about 3 hours. And yeah, I'll post pics of her soon so you can meet my little fairy. Cheers everyone!
