| Yes, my dog is a moose I've read other threads where people have made rude comments about the size of someone's yorkie but it never happened to me...until today. I took Marley and Pippin to Petsmart to get their nails clipped. I was walking around the store with Pippin while Marley was getting his nails done. A woman comes down the aisle with 4 yorkies in a shopping cart. One of her dogs saw Pippin, and jumped out of the cart and came running over. I held on to him until she came and got him. I took Pippin over to see the others, and all of them acted like they were long lost friends. It was too cute. Anyway, I was looking at her babies and she says "Oh, yours is sooo cute...and sooo big", and with that she looks at her friend with her eyes bugging out of her head like she just saw this mutant creature. I was so surprised by her comment I couldnt even respond. I just smiled and keep on walking. I know Pip isn't in the 7 pound standard range, but at 8 and a half pounds I don't consider him enormous. I wouldn't love him any less if he weighed 40 pounds, and was sprouting antlers. If she thought he was "HUGE" that's fine, but what is the purpose of making a comment like that to a stranger? Sorry for the rant, but I'm still shaking my head trying to understand what satisifaction it gave her. I don't know if she couldn't resist pointing out to her friend that my dog isn't perfect, or if she wanted to make sure I understood that my dog is too big. |

| I think some people think that the smaller the Yorkie is the better it is. I don't agree with that and I think 8 lbs is perfect. I wonder what she would have done if she had seen my 14 lb. Yorkie.

| If she had four yorkies in one cart they must have been tiny. Sometimes when people don't know about the whole "teacup" thing they think smaller is better. Those are the people that can be kind of snobby about their dogs. she was def giving you a backhanded dig.

| Three of her 4 dogs were probably in the 5-6 pound range, but one was really, really, tiny. The tiny ones are cute, but I'm happy with Pippin's size. There are times I worry because he seems so little to me. Marly is a yorkie/shih and at 12 pounds I don't think of him as a big dog. There's just more to love. |

| Geez, if Pippin is a moose, then Jackson must be an elephant. He's my 14lb baby boy

| I've had sooo many people go, aw he is so cute! My daughter has a teacup Yorkie! Yeah, we have a teacup one. Ohhh those are so cute, I want one of those, but a teacup!! There were three different occasions. I smiled and nodded. Dang people and their "teacup" Yorkies. My Scruffs is 7.1 lbs and I couldn't handle any smaller. I got him when he was 4-5 but he put on so much muscle (he is not fat).

| Never fear! LOL I have a tiny one (and she wasn't supposed to be tiny) and I've had up to an 11lb yorkie. Doesn't matter - every one of mine had more attitude that our 100# Rottie! Not only are they cute, they are packed with 'tude and love. I am a lucky woman!

| 8 1/2 Lbs enormous? hummm . That is nutty. My Suzi is around 7-8 lbs I think, and she is small , IMO. I also have a 2LB Shi Tzu puppy and she is tiny. There is a big difference in size, however one is only 9weeks old. That is to be expected! I would not ever comment on the same breed of dog being too small or too big > What is important is the health of the animal. Who cares what size the dog is. That lady must of been one of those people that did concern herself with "size does matter" even if it is a Lb and a 1/2 size difference, there is more to love ! that is what I would of told her

We all have different size Yorkies, some big, some small some within standard....but I think most of the people here just truly love the breed and don't try to prop up their own self esteem through their dog. My evil twin says you should have said, "Ah, ...and you are too" in a voice dripping with southern sugar just like it was a compliment! (Course would work best if she really was big. ) However, my more realistic half says better to do just as you did and smile as you walked away.

| Everyone wants to claim their yorktie is smaller. It's a pretty ridiculous competition I think. Tucker is 4 pounds and I can't tell you how many people have come up to me to say, "Oh, he's SOOO cute! My daughter/girlfriend/freind ect. has a yorkie but it's smaller than him." Whatever. For some reason smaller equals better to some uneducated people. I think it's because of all the teacup hype and the ridiculous prices these unethical breeders have put on them. So if their dog is smaller it means they paid more. SOOOO silly!! I think ALL yorkies are adorable and priceless no matter their size!! |
