| Missing microchip! Yesterday I took Layla to the vet, and I'm assuming there must be a yorkie missing because they have never scanned Layla for her microchip before, but they did yesterday. The tech tried and couldn't find one, so the vet tried, and he couldn't find it either! He said sometimes they move down the legs so he checked over her WHOLE BODY. I know once in awhile I have felt it in the back of her neck before. So what now? Is the microchip defective? Do they ever stop working? Why would they not be able to find it with the scan?

| Did they microchip her or did she come mircrochipped. I wonder if they had the right scanner for her brand of chip?

| I've heard of microchips migrating to other parts of the body & to have it scanned on yearly check-ups to see where it actually is. Could it have been a different manufacturer? Like a home again chip w/avid scanner? or vise versa? I think even w/different companies, it'll say what kind of chip it is or that it can't read it...but that there is a chip in there.

| I know Babybear's is down on the lower part of his shoulder it used to be up on the back part of his shoulder blades. Everytime he has xrays it has moved. They move all around.

| She was chipped when I got her when she was a baby... and she has a tattoo with her microchip number although it's pretty hard to read now that she has stretched to a gigantic 10 lbs But the vet scanned her all over her neck, back, chest, all 4 legs, and couldn't find a thing. I will try to find out what kind of chip it is...

| You should still be able to feel it under the skin even if it did migrate. When I took Uni to Banfield/Petsmart the vet student (b/c you hardly get to see the actual vet) even forgot to ask if she had one. I had to remind him, aren't you forgetting something? (We don't go there anymore) sometimes they don't know what they're doing!

| It's gotto be in there somewhere... I've also heard that hard tissue can form around the microchip so be aware of that, but to not find it is sooo bizarre!

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Does your vet have a universal scanner? Cause if not....the individual scanners for one chip manufacturer doesn't read the other.

| Oh my gosh, this whole time I swear my dog had a microchip, and now that I'm looking back through all her papers, everything says "Tattoo#/Microchip ID" and some of them have nothing circled, and just the number on her tattoo written, but there are two that have just Tattoo# circled. Maybe my dog is not chipped after all I am going to email her breeder

| It makes me upset that the breeder told us she was microchipped, and I guess it's my fault for not looking at all of this sooner.. now over 3 years later I find out she's not.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | If she were chipped...you would've had to register her with the manufacturer and would probably remember doing that.

| Ohhh, then I guess it's not really a laughing matter...sorry. If she's not chipped & you want her to be, then maybe have her chipped when you do her next dental cleaning? They do it under anestisia I believe... Maybe contacting the breeder would be a good idea.

| I remember changing things to my name and address.... but now I'm thinking maybe that was just her registration information and medical insurance... Anyways, I just emailed the breeder and we'll see what she says.
