| You should correct your dog when it bites you, I think. It is cute now but it can become a problem and it teaches the dog that its ok to bite. Tell her no firmly and put her down when she bites you. Be consistent and she will learn that chewing on you isnt ok!

| Mouthing is a normal puppy thing. That said it should be a behavior that you should correct so that it doesn't continue. At 5 months old it may be a little cute and only sometimes annoying but at a few years old mouthing to a stranger ... that's not a situation you want to encourage! You said you give your little one bones. Does she have many chew toys? The best thing to do when she starts to mouth or bite you is to instantly indicate that that's not what she should be doing and essentially replace your hand/whatever with a chew toy. She starts to bite your fingers, you give her whatever command you want ("no", "no biting", etc...) and place a chew toy in her mouth instead. She'll get fingers are off limits but look I've got a fun toy to play with now! As far as her throwing up ... that may be something you should have your vet look in to. It's not a good thing for a dog to be regularly or somewhat regularly throwing up! Eating too fast may be upsetting her. In order to avoid that, limit her! Give her a piece of an edible bone instead of the entire thing. Give her nonedible toys instead of treats to chew on. There are a lot of ways to encourage her to chew on appropriate things without making her sick! Best of luck!

| When Leo bites (as he does sometimes when he's in his wild child mood after a good nap) I use the "No Bite" command. He's gettin pretty good at obeying it now... I think he has sooo much energy he isn't sure yet how to control it... so I keep so many toys in the floor it's hard to walk through the living room... that's also when we go outside and run.

Oye! I cant wait for Daisy to stop biting, she's 5 months too and still losing baby teeth...sometimes she "chews" on our fingers...other times, she's straight out biting us in a nasty fashion...She's super hyper, anxious but very lovable and hysterical to watch, but she can get aggressive sometimes...we try to do the "ouch" or "no" loud to shock her, but she's not afraid of anything... I also find that she wont chew her food sometimes and that causes her to throw up...remember, puppies eat everything off the floor and carpet...just when you think you've been watching them all day, they show up with bathroom Calk on their nose! Goodluck!

| My 5.5 month old Chewie is very mouthy right now too. I know she is teething really bad because she has lost several baby teeth in the last few weeks. I've just been giving her many chew toys and holding her snout closed for a second when she bites me. I also say No! She's getting the hang of it. I know it's hard to be patient, but they will stop. I would look into asking the vet about the throw ups though.

| finger nibblers When Molly was at this stage, someone on here told me that when she bit, to put my finger sideways to the back of her mouth, like I was propping it open. Not hard, just there to where she couldn't close her mouth. Say "no bite!" in a firm voice, then remove it. Now when we play, if she nips at my hand, I say "no bite". She'll sit down and I swear you can see that little mind at work..."Oh yeah, can't bite. Don't like that...". Then she'll get back to playing, but without biting. So funny! |
