| For all of you that just LOVE small dogs... Why I Like Small Dogs... 1. When they jump on you to greet you, their nails don't scratch you. (I came home from the Braves game yesterday, sun burnt ridiculously bad, and Bailey, my roommate's big dog, kept jumping on me and scratching my hurting legs. Of course, not her fault, and I still love her no matter what... but Baxter didn't hurt at all when he jumped up at me.) 2. You can pick them up with one hand. 3. You can carry them anywhere you want. 4. Their poop is small, so if there is an accident in the house, it only takes a quick pick-up to clean. 5. They don't eat a lot. 6. They can sleep in the bed with you. 7. They have smaller crates. Meaning less expensive crates. 8. Everyone always says, "AW! HOW CUTE!" 9. They don't need a TON of exercise. 10. They look so cute when they are jumping at your bed, trying so hard to get up, but they just can't jump that high. 11. They are easy to travel with. ... Now everyone else, add anything you can think of. Why do you love your small furbaby? P.S. I did this because yesterday I had two, bad experiences with two, big puppies. And please no one take offense. I LOVE big dogs just as much as small dogs. I want to adopt a big dog when I move into a house one day. I'm only doing this because yesterday made me realize how much I love Baxter, my small little baby.

| All of the reasons you posted are so true! Also - when they come inside from being outside, they don't make as big of a mess as a larger dog would! I used to have a Golden and a German Shepherd and if they got messy and came running inside... the entire house was a mudpile in a few seconds flat. With Jackson, I can pick him up and catch him before he runs through the entire house making a mess, lol. Also - dog fights. I experienced a bad fight between two Boxers I was dogsitting and didn't want to get in the middle! I didn't know what to do. If it were Jackson, I probably could've just picked him up. Same thing if we're walking on a leash... if necessary, you can just pick him up with the leash & harness, lifting him away from trouble. I've never had to do that but if a bigger dog attacked him or something, it'd be easier to seperate. And like you, I LOVE big dogs! Would love to have another big dog one day but I do enjoy smaller ones.

| Small dogs can cuddle against your neck. You can also pick them up and carry them when you take a long walk and suddenly they're tired and they sit down and refuse to go any further.

| I can scoop Milly in my arms and kiss and cuddle her for as long as I like because she is so light ! Also I can take her to my local shop and carry her in my arms because the owner doesn't mind as long as she is not walking around! Plus I can fill the bath up to the top and she has her own swimming pool to swim! |

| I like small dogs because when they do jump on you , it is not scary and you don't fall down! I like small dogs because when they bark they are not going to tear your head off like a bigger dog "will" Smaller dogs are easier to control smaller dogs can be live in apartments or condos smaller dogs have quieter barks , "mostly" Smaller dogs are fun to dress up

| I really love how portable they are, the fact that they eat such a small amount therefor less poop to clean up! And of course the total CUTENESS factor. It's like having a puppy forever.

| 1. Okay, going to change some, because I also have 2 big dogs I love too. My little ones have jumped on me, and their nails have hurt my sunburns 2. You can pick them up with one hand. You can, but, I don't 3. You can carry them anywhere you want. I can take my big ones the same places the little ones are allowed 4. Their poop is small, so if there is an accident in the house, it only takes a quick pick-up to clean. My 2 outside dogs are outside, so, they don't poop in the house, and we clean up after them everyday, it's actually better, as we don't have to flush the toilet as much as we do with the little dogs. 5. They don't eat a lot. My big dogs eat 2 cups of food once a day is all 6. They can sleep in the bed with you. My friends sons rotweiller(150 lbs does sleep in bed with his mommy and daddy. None of my dogs big or small have ever or will ever sleep with me, that's why they make "dog beds". 7. They have smaller crates. Meaning less expensive crates. I don't have crate any of mine. Do have one big crate, but, it was actually bought for the 4 little ones when I was trying to weed out who was peeing on my carpet 8. Everyone always says, "AW! HOW CUTE!" Humm, they say that about my big dogs, everyone loves my shepherd with her one ear up and one ear down. 9. They don't need a TON of exercise. All 6 of mine get the same amt of exercise. My big ones need no more exercise than little. Of course, we have a big dog run for them 10. They look so cute when they are jumping at your bed, trying so hard to get up, but they just can't jump that high. Mine don't go in my bedroom, it's off limits, jumping isn't good for them anyway 11. They are easy to travel with. I have 2 little ones that hate traveling. Had to add on to these, as we love our big dogs just as much as our little ones. Infact, we probably actually spoil the big ones more, but, love them all the same. |

Anyways, sorry that ended up being so long, but I wanted to make sure what I was saying was clear. Because I love big dogs just as much as small dogs... I took Baxter to the dog park the other day, and had some bad experiences with the bigger dogs there. That is what prompted me to note all the good things about having a small dog. That's all.

sorry to hear abuot the problem with the big dog giving your little guy some problems. My big dogs would play with him, they are just as gentle, if not more so, than most little dogs. Last edited by phfgkl; 04-05-2009 at 11:52 AM. | |

Thor's Human Donating Member | * One bag of dog food will last you a year! Ditto on the treats. * There are all kinds of cute carrier bags for little dogs, and you can sneak them into places like grocery stores. *I* would never do that of course, but for the nefarious folk, whom I disapprove of, it's great. * Even a tiny park is incredibly exciting for them. * Less slobber. Someone stole Thor's ball yesterday, and when it was returned to me, it was covered with this disgusting, sticky goo. And I realized - SLOBBER! I haven't had to deal with it in years. * You can wash them in the sink. I love big dogs too, but this is a thread for small dog love.
