| Dog Vs. Baby When we picked Crumb up from the breeder, he had been sprayed with perfume, had a blue ribbon on his head, and it seems had never set foot outside. That floored me. She asked, 'do you plan to let him outdoors?' I got a Yorkie because I heard that had great temperments, were small enough to easily travel with, and were smart, and cute. It never occured to me that they might not be dogs. Don't all dogs need to rut around and be outdoors? In all fairness, she was a nice lady who cared a lot, but I was pretty put off that Crumb, because he was so small, just 3 lbs, should be dressed up like a doll and coddled like a baby. He's a dog. I washed the perfume off first thing and got that wonderful puppy dog smell. He's calm and a fast, fast learner, so he doesn't whine, get needy, have anxiety attacks, or fear much. He's had all his puppy shots, so he's been to several dog parks, the beach, ruts around in dirt, and generally acts like a dog. I love the hell out of him! Truth be told, he's so damn cute I find myself talking baby talk to him. When he wakes up in the morning, you want to just hug him so much beacuse it's so damn cute, especially the gurgle noises he makes and his stretches. On second thought just forget everything I wrote above. He's my baby! God help me, I'm even looking for a jacket for him. |

| LOL... I know what you mean. There is something different about a yorkie... I can't explain it.

| LOL! I can empathize with everything you wrote. My Ben does get to be both. He has a huge back yard all fenced in for him to run, chase birds, squirrels, and Candy (our Jack Russell). But when he comes in he also gets pampered with anything he wants. He trains us well. He can lead me all over the house to do his bidding without being able to say a word. I vowed never to put clothes on a dog. But it wasn't a month into Yorkie ownership that I was ordering hoodies and pj's from go.fetch. Turned out Ben doesn't like clothes and thinks he cannot walk in anything with legs. So, I have to be satisfied with a couple of harness vests. Otherwise, I would probably have a closet with his name on it. I remember the day I thought I would never treat my dog like a real human baby. But...... things change, what can I say. Ben is growing up a little though. I just placed a pet supplies order online and included a bottle of doggy cologne called "Aramutts." At least he doesn't ask for the keys to the car.

| I said exactly the same to my DH and he to me. We loved the look of the Yorkie and the temperment but never would it be treated like anything other than our loved dog. Well needless to say we were wrong and he has lots of clothes now. (most all still to big) but ready when he grows into them lol. And we to talk baby talk to him. DH who was always a big dog person and at first would say this is the wifes dog now says Hey he's my little buddy. |

| I have 1/3 acre for my back yard and it is landscaped with lots of bushes and flowerbeds and such. Puddin' is just too small to be let loose out there by herself. She goes out on her leash, she goes everywhere with us in her puppy bag, but she is never let out by herself. She will have to get a lot bigger before I think it is safe...we have a long, narrow property that goes into the heart of the block, so we have six other properties whose back property lines are shared with my back garden wall. One of these houses contains the most incorrigible pair of teen aged boys...they jump over the wall and hide in my flowerbeds from their mother...they drink and smoke and leave the bottles and butts behind (my maid does the gardening every Wednesday and at least once a month she finds stuff). I have actually seen them in my yard and they try to defiantly stare me down when I order them off the property. There is no way I would let Puddin' out when those cretins are around. Her colouring blends into the shadows of the bushes and trees and these morons would think nothing of vaulting over the wall, landing right on her, and not telling me she had been injured. Also, we had a robbery recently and the burglars gained entry to our property from one of the neighbours back gardens, so there is just no way Puddin' is going out there until she is big enough and smart enough to recognize danger as it comes over the garden wall!

| I'm starting to realize this also... when I got Tobie I swore that I would not spoil him too much because I didn't want him to end up like my parents chihuahua. My dad has spoiled that dog sooo much and she is such a brat! I love dogs so much but he rarely disciplines that dog and she thinks she rules the house and barks at everyone except for my dad, mom, sister (who all live with her) and me. My poor brother can't step foot in that house without her barking and barking... actually, they can't even say his name without her barking! Anyway, I find myself treating Tobie more like a baby than I ever have with my other 2 dogs. Don't get me wrong, I love my other babies just as much but I can't help but spoil him! Sometimes I have to stop myself and think about Sadie (my parents dog) and remind myself not too spoil him too much but that little face just melts my heart. hehe

YT 1000 Club Member | This hits home. I always said I would never have a yappy fru fru dog!! HA! She's not yappy by any means but I wonder at times if I'm turning her fru fru. She still likes to do all the dog things but I've noticed lately her small stack of clothes is growing. My 13 year old son is having a cow over it. But my 24 year old daughters friends love it. DH seems to baby her even more when she has a bow in her hair!! The OP couldn't be more on with her post. |

| I totally agree with you! Finally someone understands! LOL. I feel like people look at these little Yorkies as if they're not dogs sometimes and it really bugs me. They deserve to run around and get messy as much as any other dog! Jackson is a bigger Yorkie, at over 10 pounds now at 5 months, so maybe that's why I don't worry as much. But I call him my "country boy." We live on 3 acres of land with 60 acres of farmland behind us and he absolutely loves romping around, gettin' muddy, and playing outside. But at the same time, he's my baby boy. I always want the best for him, he's spoiled (I think I buy more for him than myself! LOL) He gets baths once a week, he goes everywhere with me, lol.

| My hubby likes dogs but when I got the Chihuahuas and now Jasper he knew they were not going to be treated like normal dogs.Boy was he right, they are my babies and they have there own little wardrobe. They have Birthday parties and I am already planning Jaspers 1st bday.I give them baby blankets to sleep with and wash there bed linen and dogs beds every other day.My babies get baths just as much as my actual kids do.Matter of fact all three dogs were in the bathroom with me one night(I was home by myself and didn't want to be alone).I was soaking in the tub and all three heard something in the hall and jumped in the bath with me to protect them.It was so funny but not also if that makes since. They are so spoiled and I would do anything for them.Jasper doesn't like clothes as much as the chis but I am working on him.It can get really cold here in Illinois so he has to wear coats. The love we have for our furbabies is definately unique. |

Anyway, no my dogs aren't.......again so sorry for the slow posting Mo was cold and needed his little "boo blankie". Ah hem <clearing throat> No, my dogs aren't babied. They are dogs.
