| Are these purebred Yorkies? I was supposed to get (prepaid) a yorkie puppy from a lady. The puppy passed away before i got her at about 8 weeks. then the lady offered me pick of the litter from another yorkie litter she had. i warily agreed. she said that she had a couple "red" yorkies and some regular colored ones. i was interested in getting a red one,but she then decided later that i could take the one puppy she had left or not at all. she sent me pics of the one i had to take. it does not look like a purebred yorkie to me at all. she also has (though i didn't know before i agreed to this) several other breeds of dogs. i think these pups look part pom or part chihuahua. i will post pics of just random chi and pom pics that came up on google and then the one of the puppies. do you think they are purebred yorkie? their eyes are just different... |

| No way are they Yorkie. MAYBE they have Yorkie in them somewhere but I think they look like Pomeranians. Edit - I thought the first pics were the dogs she was trying to sell you. Hmm, they look like they could definitely be mixed with Yorkie but I'm pretty sure they're not purebred.

| 100% no. This looks like a porely bred Pomeranian, or a yorkie/pom cross. Please don't pay for a mixed puppy. Good luck finding your baby!

| that is what i thought...the lady got VERY defensive when i asked if she did DNA testing. which she doesnt. But she is selling them as show quality AKC puppies with full reg. papers. i want to get into showing which is why i was getting this little one. then when i showed the pics to another breeder they said they wouldn't touch those pups to their lines with a 10 foot pole. the "breeder" is just treating me so rudely and acting like it is my fault that her pups don't even look like yorkies. she is refusing to give me all of my money back... |

| If you want a dog to show, you need to buy from a person who shows their dogs successfully. Someone who just says they have "show lines" may or may not have a dog that meets the breed standard. However, even top show breeders will have pet quality puppies, so you need to find a breeder you can trust and that can mentor you if you want to get into showing. A top quality show puppy will be a little harder to find, so you will need to find a breeder that is willing to work with "newbies" to showing. Most of the time you can expect to have a contract with a co-ownership and other "strings" on a potential show puppy. Your puppy, should at the very least, be champion sired. (Just having champions in it's background is not enough). I'd suggest starting with the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America and then find a member club in your state/city. You can get breeder referrals from them and start learning more about showing. I'd suggest you go to as many dog shows as possible and start talking to the Yorkie people there. You will learn alot and you will see different 'types' of dogs and then you can decide which breeder's dogs appeal to you. You can also contact your local all-breed kennel club and start getting involved there. They will have conformation training classes that you will want to start in on once your puppy is about 4 months old so you can start training in ring etiquette. There will be "fun matches" available that you can practice on, etc. Obviously Yorkies that are being shown have meticulous coat care, including putting them in oil, so you will NEED a breeder/mentor that will show you the ropes. Oh, and to answer your original question.... those puppies sure don't look like purebred Yorkies to me. |

| Not yorkies, and I'm leery that this woman has "several other breeds of dogs". Is she running a puppymill?

| You definately need to get your money back. Did you have a contract? What did it say about if the puppy died? Some have non-refundable deposits and have it in the contract that they can substitute from another litter. But I have never seen one that they can offer you only one puppy -- and one that certainly is not full yorkie to boot. After you get your money back if that is poissible, I would immediately contact the AKC. This woman needs reported. There are going to be occasional yorkies that are purebred as far as the breeder knows, that do not meet all the standards. But when one pops up looking a whole lot more pom than yorkie and the lady breeds yorkies, then it is obvious the AKC needs to step in. They can revoke her ability to register with AKC. She will probably just go to CKC or one of the other registries (that is how most of them cropped up, to accomodate folks who were thrown out of AKC). But at least she will not dupe people with the AKC purebred status. What is wrong with people lately? I can't understand breeders not having a conscience. BTW I wold post the name here to save others the problems.

| i found out later from someone that works at my vet's office that she has had several lawsuits because of mulitple dead horses found on her property. she DID show her yorkies. that is the odd thing. apparently both parent's were shown. maybe something else just got mixed in??? i don't know....but i doubt i will ever see my money again. i was stupid enough not to get a bill of sale so i don't think i have any legal standing. |
