New here and I have a question as baby on the way Hi everyone. :) My yorkie is 4 years old and she is a little dote also very spoilt!! The thing is I'm due a new baby next month and I was wondering if any of you have any ideas or gone through a similar situation and how you dealt with bringing a new baby home to meet your yorkie. She is most certainly the baby of the house for the past 4 or so years!! She is very submissive around other kids but I just dont know how she's going to deal with the new addition. I want to make it as easy as possible for her. Some people think her nose will be put out of joint when baby arrives and that she's going to be a problem. I honestly dont think she will be a major problem(possibly a little jealous) but it is making me anxious the more I hear them say that!! She is going tomorrow to get neutered(I'm also nervous about this:( poor pup!!). So any ideas would help immensely. :) TIA |
Welcome to YT and Congrats! Don't worry about her spay, she should be fine and it is really best for her. I don't have experience for you as I am baby-less (skin kind that is). My 2 fur-babies are 4 y/o as well and very spoiled too :p I have heard that you should let her smell the babies things that you have or will have at home right now, and let her rub her scent on them. Then, I have heard to bring a baby blanket (with your new baby smell) home from the hospital before your bring the baby home and let her smell it and rub her scent on it - that's all I have heard so far! Just take your time...if she is good with 'other' kids, she should be fine :D |
I don't have children, but I did watch an episode of "Bringing Home Baby" and the couple had a small dog. They suggested to get the dog used to things that the baby could do such as lightly pulling on their fur--not so much as it would hurt them, but like a baby would trying to play. That was the main focus of the show was getting them used to that, but I think she'll probably get used to the idea when the baby is born. Congrats on your soon to be new addition! |
