| Hello I am newbie My name is Kyra please help Hi everyone my name Is Kyra, and my new puppy is Ayla. She is a morkie but has alot of yorkie. I have joined because I have been trying to find answer to all the problems I have already faced in the 3 weeks of having this wonderful but very sick puppy. I bought her on Feb. 9 09. I took her to the vet, and they said she was under wgt. and belly was desended so he put her on a deworming, the next day we woke up and she was almost dead. It was awful. Thank God I brought her into my room that night in her crate, other wise? The night before I had her in another room. Well I woke up to her making gagging noise and looked in and she was on her back and looked like she was choking. When I pulled her out she was already limp in my hands. I was so so scared my husband I rushed in pajamas to the nearest vet well i wasnt even sure who was open. Its morning rush and I said we can go to the emerngancy (we wouldnt have made it, they also would have been closed) but I then said lets go to this one and just see I am crying omg the worse feeling I have had so utterly useless not nowing what to do. I was already attached to this little puppy. So my husband is running red lights, speeding doing what ever he can to get her there. My husband has fallen ga ga over her already. as we drove up they were unlocking there doors. She had a hypoglocimia attack. Between the deworming the under wgt. and me not making her eat that last meal of the day. I so wish the breeder would have sent a care sheet about hypo and that she needs this this and this. like so many other breeder have done when they give there pups to there new families. I wouldn't have gone threw all this. I did read about it but I didnt know my puppy yet so I thought she was just tired that night. I had been getting up with her every 3 hours to go pee. I did notice her stumble but just thought she was sleepy. But I agree that they need that nutra cal for a least the frist week for safty measures and to make sure when they dont eat that they will still get there nutrient. Sorry got off track. A week later after a few trips to the night emergency for lows and sneeze cough thing she got to see the vet. The one I was trying to get her into was out over a week and even after all this she couldnt get her in any sooner. I found one that would and we brought in a stool sample for them to check and found out she had a BAD 3+ case of giardia and thats why she had been under wgt and so on. I started to search on the internet and found your forum to be my 2nd best friend I finally got some info. Well she also had her shots and ended up staying there all day the vet talked me into the lepto. she was hurting realy bad and she also had the shakes. Before I had asked if she could give her benydrel first but she wanted to see if she would have a reaction she didnt still give her one. The vet gave her a pain shot, she has quite the lump and its been hurting for 5 days took in her poo sample in this last friday after her 7 day treatment and also had her look at her arm of course it wasnt bothering her then, but good news giardia was gone first round still skeptic of this. I will be bring in another sample in a week. not on there request on what I have learned here. I was giving her a little to much of it I quess for the first 4 days but nothing that was harming her the vet said. so she ended up with a 5 way. I thought she was splitting them up. the kennel cough one and not even sure what eles, but there were 2 more coming but I cancled them. There also giving her a extra set, the vet not sure if the lable sticker record that the breeded gave was real. I think it was. but i dont want to give her the extra set or the lepto or the kennel not sure how many she needs (sets, i think 3 from what I have been reading) or if the core is good enough, plus rabies. so so scared I am going to lose her. The vet is putting very much inportance on this lepto. I looked and we do not have any reports in years on it in our area. We do go camping alot and not sure if she should have it. If anyone can help with this I would greatly appreictiat it sorry so long. |

| I am so sorry for you and your little one. I'm not a vet first of all. I have found alot of info on this site too. These little ones can be so fragile, and it dosn't make a difference of the breed here. I would call the breeder you got her from to make sure all the information is correct, and unless you really really trust your vet, find one that specializes with small breed dogs, NOW!!! Your in my prayers. |

| Welcome to YT! Wow - you have been thru a lot with this little girl? How is Ayla doing now? It sounds like the breeder was just awful - very irresponsible, sent you a very sick dog. Have you contacted the breeder? They should be paying all these vet bills! I'm not sure what to tell you about the shot series. It's been a long time since I had a new puppy & there are new recommendations. My vet is very, very conservative - a holistic vet who believes many animals are over vaccinated. Maybe a breeder can give you better advice. Glad to here that YT has become your 2nd best friend! This is really a great place to learn & we have a lot of fun her too!

| Please DO NOT give her the Lepto shot. Alot of Yorkies have bad reactions to this shot, and I really don't feel it's necessary unless she will be coming into contact with alot of wildlife. I would only do the core vaccines for her, plus rabies if it's required by law. Also, it's a good idea to split the shots up if you can. Don't give the rabies on the same day as the others. It should be done a couple of weeks after. I really like Dr Dodd's vaccination schedule which you can find at this LINK. I just want to say "hats off" to you, for being such a good new Mommy and taking care of this little one when she obviously really needs you. W*E*L*C*O*M*E to YT!

| Thank you all for your advise and yes she is doing well today some days she has her lows and highs. But I think were on track. I am looking for another vet. who specializes in small dogs. The current vet is real nice, but doesn't seem to believe that the new stuff for lepto is as dangerous, she was saying 10 years ago when: bla bla bla that didn't seem rightto me. my moms dog which is a s**tzu died for a few minuts when she got her round but my mom isnt sure which of the ones did it. they now give her benydrel everytime. I feel I will be judged or critizied if I fight her on this. or well be judgemental I think for my choice, so I am calling around in the morning. Thanks for the shot link that help alot. As far as the breeder goes I did call when she had her hypo and she seemed so shocked none of her pups have ever done this besides one which she kept it was a tea cup maltese. I did question these tea cups with her. she assured me that hers were fine. In the contract the vet has to wright up fault and the vet wouldn't she said she could have gotten the giardia since I had her. But also said It could have been passed down from the mom, I had her tested exactly a week after i had her I am sure with that score and everything eles that it comes back to the breeder she should of told me she wasn't gaining and she needed to make sure she was healthy before she gave her to me. I would of so have respected that. anyways I hope the new vet understands and goes along with my wishes and I am also going to wait at least 6 weeks after her last core shots before she gets that rabies. Ill keep posting updates. I sure do love her. Oh heres a laugh though my life has been pretty down is why we got her to fill in that void with the last child leaving the house. I have been wanting a yorkie or mix for awhile, I was going to name her Zoley short for Zoloft she was suppose to be my antideppresent but she has been bringing me panic attacks. lol It realy is getting some better. She makes me laugh she has pure terrier. She digs and pounces and she loves to kill her toys its fun to watch, and I have almost potty trained her and she sits and stays so far. But she loves to bite. That to is getting much better she is just relizing i am the pack leader. But she still tests me alot just got to get dad on board too. sorry again so long i should of been righting all along. |
