I'm just curious, do female yorkies mark their territory too? Or is it primarily a male dog thing?

I've only ever had marking problems with boys! Neither Mika nor my bitch staff (unneutered and had puppies) have ever marked!

I have heard that some females will mark when they are in heat, but I've never seen it.

Yes, females do mark when going through their heat cycle. I first noticed it with Megan...thought she was going pee a lot but then watched her closely and realized she was going at the same spot someone else had just gone and it was just a little bit. I also noticed her peeing in the other girls' beds just to let them know she was there. I've also seen Megan and Maddie do this so yes, girls do mark. I will say though, it's not a strong urine odor like it can be with the boys, it's just a lot of little pee-pee- spots about the size of a quarter.
