| Scaredy yorkie Hi, Our Tiki is 3 1/2 now - almost. Lately she has been getting all hyper when we go in the car. She is sooo excited to get into the car and is usually ok until we get to the freeway. Then she will tremble and after a while she will pant like crazy. The first time it happened, I thought she was thirsty so of course I popped out her water dish, but no. Then I realized she was scared. We got to thinking and we think the very first time it happened, we had driven over some compact snow on the freeway, made bumpy by the snow plows scraping it down and then cars driving over it with chains, making it really bad. Now if we hit a bump, use the wipers or if a big rig goes by (noisy one), then it starts up....today we were out, on the freeway and she never made a sound. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason to it. Any help would appreciated. We don't scold. We try not to say anythign to her but I worry that she may have a heart attack or something. My girlfriend has her brother and he has done it from day one. They have a mororhome and she said he panted all the way to California and back from Washington. I wrote to Warren Eckstein too. Myrna |

Thor's Human Donating Member | Thor is always happy to get in the car because it means we're going somewhere fun, usually the park. He usually shakes like a leaf while I'm driving, and I'm not THAT bad a driver! It kind of freaks me out, but I think he's just excited. I have a special blanket for him to sit on while he's in the car. Maybe that would help? Not that it helped Thor, but that was all I could come up with. |

| My Sunshine is skittish like that in the car or our motorhome too. She LOVES to go with us, but is jumpy and shakes if she feels bumps or loud vehicles.. especially semis.. I have found she is much better since we gotr the console car seat and she can SEE what is scaring her. She still gets shaky at times, but she is much better PS I have a poodle who is terrified of the windshield wipers! but that is another story altogether

| Suzi is 10 months old, and is terrified of car rides. Even going short distances .She use to vomit too. Now she just trembles and pants. I am now trying to go for short rides with her.... just to help her calm down. I have noticed she is better when she can look out the window.

| Hi, Thanks and I am glad to know we are not the only ones.... Tiki has a console seat that we made for her. It puts her high enough that she can see out the window. She loves it. She does love going byebye too. Took her to be groomed this morning and we had to sit outside Petco for a few minutes while the groomer got the door open. Tiki stood with her front paws on the sides of her bed whining (we call it talking), then giving me kisses, then her Dad kisses...so excited to go in. Then when Ashley (groomer)_ came to let us know to come in - we got out (Tiki is still excited) and went inside. Then we turned to the door to the salon. Then she just wanted out again. She hates to be left but Ashley says she is a perfect model of behavior and always gets a gold star. She even sat perfectly still while we had a bit more trimmed off her face. She has a puppy cut all of the time. None of that long hair brushing, combing, etc stuff for us. She is our pet so she will stay short. Gosh we love her. Myrna |

| Meka does it too She'll be 2 yrs next month and its always been that way with car rides. Doesnt matter if she's held or in her seat, she shakes on every ride. But, now I've been noticing that she does it when we meet someone, or even if she's waiting for her dinner...she'll shake until its time for her to eat. I try to calm her as well, but it doesn't work. She gets herself so excited. I too wonder, is there anyway to help her get over it or is it just her

| My Gucci does it too. When we going in the car or when he knows I am leaving the house. He starts to shake from the time I'm getting dressed. (Wait did this dog just pass wind next to me??? ...es:....Lord the things you accept from these animals....LOL) Anyway...back on topic. However once in the car he sorta inda stops shaking unless I turn on the indicator (he barks at that) or a motorcycle or loud car passes by. I do not drive with the windows down... He doesn't like his booster seat either. He tries to jump on my lap and when he doesn't accomplish that he lays in one corner (face hidden) of the booster seat for the whole ride. |
