| New Puppy Questions I got a puppy (now 5 months old) just 2 weeks ago from an individual who needed to "rehome" him because she was moving (I hate that! lol). Anyway, he is a chihuahua/yorkie mix ("chorkie") and I don't know if I can post here since he's not a purebred yorkie. By the way, I only paid $150 for him and didn't get him for being a "designer dog." I didn't even know he was one until I started reading here - I just thought he was a cutie pie who needed a home If I am welcome here, I have some questions for you He is only 3.4 pounds and isn't expected to get much bigger! I have named him "Pixel." I am attaching a couple of pics of the little guy. |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Welcome to YT. We don't turn up our noses at anyone. He is a mix but he is a terrier at his core. So welcome and I just had to say he is cute..

| Well thank you!! I think he's pretty cute too I'm glad to know I am welcome here because I need help!! lol The only dog I have ever owned I had for 16 years and got her at 8 weeks old. She was a shelter rescue - some sort of German Shepard mix (never did find out with WHAT) and was 60 pounds. I lost her to kidney failure over Thanksgiving It was heartbreaking. The house was way too quiet so I just had to get another dog and didn't want to "replace" my baby so I went with a small boy instead of a big girl But now I am not sure what to do because he is sooooo timid!!! He follows me everywhere and stays on my heels but if I go to pick him up or give him a treat he runs from me!! He will only let me hold him if I am already on the couch and then HOURS LATER he will ask to join me and I help him up. How can I train a dog who is afraid of me and WHY is he afraid? Is it a small dog thing or do you think maybe he was abused in the past? Please help!! |

| Thanks LilMissy! I'm so glad SOMEONE likes the name because just about everyone I know hates it - ha! LOL I am sort of a computer nerd though and he's so little and animated, I just thought it fit him The girl I lost I named "Guinness," so guess I like unusual names So if you read my above post I am having trouble with him being DEATHLY afraid of everything! Should I just wait it out? It's been 2.5 weeks already and he still won't let me bend down and touch him much at all. He runs away! Though he has bonded with me because he follows me everywhere and wants to snuggle with me on the couch. What can I do? |

| Welcome to you and Pixel! Welcome. Your little Pixel is adorable - thank you for sharing his pic. Pixel will need time to adjust to his new family. Remember his whole world - everything he knew changed the minute you adopted him. Another comment, not liking to be picked up seems to be a common Yorkie trait. I have a pup that is coming a year old (Emmitt) that was whelped here, I have handled him since birth, and the little stinker will will dash off when I reach down to pick him up . |

| Thanks Chattiesmom!! It helps me a lot to know maybe it's just something in his makeup and it's not that he hates me - ha! LOL I was also worried maybe he was abused or something, so that helps to alleviate that worry too Stubborn little things aren't they?! He seems to only want to be loved when HE wants it and otherwise, I can hit the road for all he cares! LOL I have another question. Since he is 5 months do you think his hair will get any longer than it is now? I'm just wondering how much the little guy is going to change as he gets older. |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | These stinkers like to play and I think that is part of it. My Toby is all about being picked up. While Zoey on the other hand tends to only let you pick her up when she wants to be picked up. She does the same thing. They think they are the kings and queens so they do what the like In your situation it's about him learning to trust and adjusting to his new home. A little time and love and all will be well.

| Just wanted to say Hello and Welcome!!!!!!! You got yourself a real cutie there! I think this is a yorkie thing,,, mine is the same way. His hair may continue to grow and change colors for maybe even the first couple of years. That is also a yorkie thing. I raise chihuahua's and have yorkies, the combination of the two is certainly gonna be a keeper, you really lucked out. Luv them ears!!!!!!! You're a real cutie Mr Pixel! |

| Thank you guys soooo much!! I'm so glad I came here! I feel so much better already! I was trying to be patient because I know the little guy is in a new place and has been through so much, but I was starting to worry since it's been almost 3 weeks and he's still acting the same way! Thanks mom 4 winston! I was wondering if he would end up having longer hair like a yorkie or if he was finished growing it. I had no idea they could change for up to 2 years - wow! One other concern of mine is the yappiness. He doesn't bark hardly at all so I am feeling lucky there so far. I have heard though that chis can be snappy and I've read yorkies can too. I hope since he is BOTH he won't end up being a mean little rascal! LOL Any thoughts on that? |
