| ![]() I'm 15. I really want to get a yorkie to train and care for. My family has an existing dog, but me and him don't really contact because my dad got him when I was very little and i've never really had a chance to train him, earn his respect (he is very old now.) Do you think i would be able to? I have school from 9-3 but i have a month of winter break, and 2 weeks of spring. I have 3 and a half months of summer. I'm thinking about getting it as soon as school ends in the summer so i have 3 full months to train it. after that, i'll be walking it once in the morning, my mum will be letting it twice while im away (for a quick time) and i will be coming home from school and walking it an additional two times. But aside from that I feel I am very responsible. My grades are always higher that an 85. and my GPA is 3.8 I just kinda want something that I can earn the respect of and love unconditionally. do you think id be suited for this? My parents said its up to me because they already want to get a dog. |

| ![]() It sounds like you are very responsible and have done your research well. I feel like you understand the responsibilities and consequences of having a dog, unlike a LOT of people who just want something cute and furry to carry around in a bag. If your parents are okay with it, I say go for it! I would definitely wait until summer break though.

| ![]() It seems like you are up to providing good care for a Yorkie now, with help from your parents. However, what are your plans for after you graduate from high school? If you go away for college, you likely won't be able to take the Yorkie with you, & you'll miss each other.

One thing that I am worried about is during exam period (its 1 week, but i usually start studying two weeks before) i get really busy. Also before midterms, with school and grades and stuff. | |

| ![]() I got my yorkie last year when I was 16 and in school and it worked well as I walked him and my mom let him out during the day. I think that having a yorkie to love and to..*cough* train is something that I would recommend to many of my peers (with some exceptions of course ![]()

| ![]() Sounds like you've put a lot of thought about this. I think you'd do a great job.

| ![]() No one can really tell you if you should or shouldn't get one. I got my first one when I was 16, I graduated HS early so I was already out of school. I went through a couple periods where I was fairly irresponsible. I was working and going to college part time and then I would go out with friends so my dog was left with my parents a lot. Everything worked out in the end though, I still have my first one plus another and I just balance my schedule between them, school, and whatever else... It sounds like you're already thinking ahead about everything you would be taking on, so if that's what you want then go for it. ![]() But I agree that summer time would probably be the best time to do it, that way you have plenty of time with the new puppy before going back to school.

| ![]() It's hard to tell through the internet, but it sounds to me like you are very responsible and you definitely have the puppy's best interest in mind. I think you'd be well suited. ![]()
