| jackson's doing great! i've had jackson for 5 days now and he's been doing so great & impressing me! i've been impressing myself as well, haha... i've never been so into training a dog and it seems to be working, whatever i'm doing. luckily, i'm out of college until the end of january to work with this little guy. i've got him on a pretty set schedule so far... he wakes up around 7-7:30am, i pick him right up out of the crate and put his collar/leash on him and bring him directly outside, through the same door, around the same spot outside. so far, he has peed every morning! sometimes more than once. and he pooped three times outside. and every time, i bring a little doggie treat and praise him a TON and them let him have about 20 minutes of playtime inside with me in my room which is gated off. he usually eats & drinks during this time too. then i'll usually put him back in his crate and go back to sleep for another hour. he whines at first but quickly goes to sleep. then we get up again, this time around 8:30 - 9am, i again take him directly outside to go potty and bring treats and praise. and then he gets more playtime where i watch him for about an hour and let him run in his little gated room. this continues for the rest of the day where i'm constantly letting him outside, giving him playtime, back in the crate, etc. and whenever i leave the house, he stays in his crate obviously. crate training really seems to be the way to go! he's a really smart little man, i can't complain too much, lol. and the times when he's peed in the house, he usually goes straight for the pee pee pad which was great. if he can be trained both outside and on the pad, that'd be great. he definitely constantly needs to be near you though. if you put him in the crate, he barks obnoxiously for about 20 minutes before stopping and it's quieter and more of a whine if i'm near him while he's in the crate, but he eventually will fall asleep. he constantly just has to see me and know i'm there. and yay for today (i hope i'm not speaking TOO soon.. it's only 2:30pm here) but there has been NO accidents in the house today. he peed and pooped first thing this morning, and did both again at lunch time. i'm hoping we're off to a good start. and i'm curious to know about everyone elses experiences with their puppy for the first week and accidents and behavior problems they may have had! (sorry for the long book!) Last edited by Britster; 12-17-2008 at 11:25 AM. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Wow, he's doing AWESOME!! And really, a huge part of that is due to you and your diligence in helping him understand what to do. Well done! If I get another yorkie someday, will you come live w/ me???? I didn't have near this success w/ my boys - though Marcel (my 2nd) was MUCH better/easier than Wylie.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | That's great!!! Some are easier than others. My Cali was very easy, Roxie and Pixie were a little harder to train. Sounds like you got a great baby there!!! Enjoy!!!

| Your doing a great job! Give yourself a pat on the back for me. I am a believer in a schedule. I love them and I think the pups do as well. There are times Bud knows what's next before I make a more. He somehow knows when 8:00pm is because he comes to get me for his night time treat. Congratulations on your patience and determination. You two make a great team. Happy Holiday's, |

| thanks everyone! and yes, jackson seems to know every night when it's 8pm too, haha. it's really cute how he's already getting his little schedule down. he's in his crate right now asleep and today was definitely a successful day! i hope tomorrow can be the same. he peed a little bit one time right next to his pee pad but it was totally my fault. i had been playing with him, getting all of his energy out and i got a text message on my phone, looked at it for 5 seconds and he went... lol, go figure! i looked at him real quick and caught him in the action and just said no! but that's all - i felt bad because i was the one not watching him. but that was it! one little pee in the house out of 5/6 different pees and 2 poops outside... i'd call it a good day!

| oh no! she poops in her crate? that's the worst! i'm sorry. the reason jackson has been doing so well is because he will not go potty in his crate... so it's good when you can't keep your eye on him to put him in there, you know? that way you know you're safe. and every single time that i take jackson out of the crate, i bring him directly outside and repeat "go potty, go potty" and he usually goes. if he doesn't, i put him back in the crate for about ten minutes and try again. each time he's going quicker and quicker. 2 days ago, i had to stand out in the cold for nearly 15 minutes before he went, lol. today i brought him directly outside and he went within a minute. i'm so proud of him! i hope this behavior doesn't change for the worst and he keeps up with it!

| quick little update 'cause i'm so proud of my boy, lol. he's still doing very well! he's over 12 weeks now and i've had him since december 13th but he's began to bark to let me know he has to go outside! two days ago, he was sitting at the gate in my rooms doorway and started to bark so i looked and said "gotta go outside to go potty?" and he barked again so i picked him up, brought him right outside and he peed! he's been doing this a lot! not EVERY time he has to go, but a lot of times. last night, we had went to sleep around 10pm and he started barking at me at midnight so i got up, took him outside, and he had to go pee! yay! lol. i love that he's letting me know. he slept until 9am this morning and then i took him directly outside like every morning and he went poop and pee.
