Do any of your babies get constipated? The last few weeks Gwen has atleast once a week. I haven't changed her food, and I can't figure out why this is happening to her. Is this something I need to have the vet checked. Without going to exact details I actually need to have to help her get it out. I know it's kinda gross. Sorry.

I've heard that you can add some canned pumpkin to their food to help her get 'moving'

I adopted Corky only two months ago, but I have known Corky for several years. Corky used to really suffer with constipation with his old mother. He only pooped about 1x or 2x a WEEK. Now he goes 2-3x a day and feels great for it. He smiles after he goes and picks up the speed of his walking.

His constipation was down to two specific reasons:

First, he was never walked. His mom would just open the back door and send him outside. Walking is like exercise for humans, it makes their heart pump (our hearts don't just pump blood on their own) and gets the fluids in the body moving and kind of breaks up stuff in the intestines. At least two walks a day are important in my humble opion.

Secondly, his mother fed him beef patties twice a day and that was it! You may be giving your baby WAY too much protein. Protein can be very constipating and Yorkies get kidney stones and other ailments from too high of a protein diet. Or you may be including too many fillers such as rice, bread crackers, treats etc. I don't give Corky any red meat, only turkey, rabbit, or salmon filet and at least 50% of the food is vegetables (green beans, broccoli, or spinach). He also gets little fruit snacks that he likes such as melon, pear and cashew nuts if he is very good.

Last but not least, make sure his water bowl is constantly full as dehydration can also cause constipation in both dogs and people.

A small amount of mineral oil in his food will usually help.
