there are a lot of chew sticks or teeth cleaning sticks/treats that you can buy for dogs, but how come most of them say "do not give to dogs under 5 lbs."

milu is very picky with food and treats, so i have to buy many different kinds of stuff for her to chew on. (she gets tired of the same thing really fast) but since milu is under 3lbs. i am not sure if it's safe to give her those chew things when it says not to give to dogs under 5 lbs.

i tried to ask people at the pet store, and they had no idea why it says that. and they think it's fine to give those things to milu. does anyone know why it says not to give to dogs under 5lbs?

I don't really have an answer to your question about the weight restrictions, but I have plenty of experience with bones and chew toys! Miles loves the flavored Booda Bones. I used to get him the kind for small dogs, but he would chew them up so fast, and I was scared he would swallow the little fragments. So now I get him the Booda Bones that are made for HUGE dogs! They keep him occupied for weeks, and they're so big I don't have to worry about him swallowing it. Once it gets down to the nub at one end, I just toss it.

where can you get flavored booda bones? is it ok for them to eat the pieces that comes off? thank you

You can ask butcher to cut for you like a one inch of femur bone cook it and take any excess of fat on it, they like that and is very strong for them, nyla bone the hard ones from petco and petsmart (heavy chewers) work for mine, also flossies are great (beef tendons)

Booda bones are edible bones. You can find them at Petedge or Petsmart. Izze's favorite is peanutbutter. PetEdge: Booda Bone Value Packs

i bought a teeth cleaning hard rubber toy for addison. It is for a large dog and has about six moving wheels with different textures. He does chew it for about ten min, before becoming bored. One question, I have considered putting a little doggie toothpaste on it to assist with the teeth cleaning and possibly hold his interest a little longer. Is the toothpaste safe if used in very small amounts in this fashion?

I give Baxter the Hymilayan dog chews. They are completely natural, and since he has a sensitive tummy, they work best for him. He cannot get hunks off, so no choking, and he is always chewing them, PLUS they last forever! The only draw back is that only one store in Maine sells them so if I am near there I will get a few. Other than that I have to order them online. I swear by them for Baxter.

What store do you find them in? I'm in Maine as well but central. I just got my yorkie a few weeks ago and am always looking for treats.

The Greenies site says that you shouldn't give the regular ones to dogs under 6 months old or five pounds. They say something about them not being able to chew adequately.

So five pound dogs don't know how to chew? My personally opinion is that most chews are dangerous to all dogs but maybe these companies think they are more dangerous for the smaller ones? Maybe it is an excuse for I'm not sure. I do know Ellie was around five pounds for the longest time and she could chew just fine.
