| where to keep your baby while you are gone??? first off, my girl Dolly is a bad girl (don't tell her), she is more than two and a half years old and still get herself in trouble while alone in the house from time to time. so when she was in my house alone, I usually baby gated her into this close to empty area next to my bedroom where there is no trouble she can get into, while provide her enough room to move around and play. now she has to stay at my parents place for a while. my parents place is in the city and small. and there is really no free room just for her to play while my parents are gone. so Im think about keeping her in a baby play yard while there is nobody around. we tested it earlier today, we put both my mom's chihuahua and Dolly in there. we left them alone in the room for a few minutes. and the chihuahua somehow jumped out of there (safely this time) and Dolly was in the process of trying to jumped out. and I got real nervous as Dolly is only a tiny bit(2.8lbs) and I couldn't imagine her jumping out from that high. we are running out of ideas where to keep her since she hates to be crated and will be barking the whole time! any suggestions???? |

| This is an idea that I ran across somewhere here on YT so it is not my idea. It would keep your baby safely in the ex-pen. "You could go to any home improvement store and get some crossed trellis material (it usually comes in plastic sheets or wooden expandable/collapsible sizes) and attach with some plastic zip ties at one end(as a hinge point) and simply rope/twine as needed to keep it down." I also have different toys that I can put a few treats into that have been chopped into tiny pieces. They spend a lot of time getting the treats out. The tiny pieces make it so that I don't over feed them. I also play music fairly loudly to cover up outside noises that sets them off....especially the Pommie.

| If you want to get her used to the crate, put her in for short increments of time with a treat or stuffed kong... gradually increase those minutes... Izze is claustrauphobic so I just leave her in my bedroom with Molly... so that works out. Could you puppyproof a room in your parent's home? a bathroom perhaps (make sure chemicals in bathroom are put away (not under sink) and toilet lid is shut... Dolly and the chi are soooo cute. those faces. Your chi has nice coloring

| See---it's because you give in LOL If you don't and you are consistent...it could workout. i understand your concern for her little leggies----hmmmm have you tried an extra large crate with pillows, food, etc... PetEdge: Everlasting Crate with Dual Doors I have one of these...and if you don't cover it with a blanket, it won't feel like a "crate" and the XL kind is big enough to not be too small for her.... I use that for my Suzie poodle (she's a jumper and I don't trust her potty-wise around the house)...and she used to jump and jump and hurt her legs in the x-pen .

| I think the soft sided crate (with the above opening) is a good idea...or the plastic play yard expen (from walmart). P.S. You tell your parents if they ever need a baby sitter for Miss Dolly to contact me. I am on Long Island and she is such a cutie! I'd love to baby sit her |

i do have a chi--a rather large one. He is white with brown spots... He can jump well too, but he listens to me... he understands boundries...as does Izze and Molly---but not Suzie. She's my problem child and I often refer to her issues a lot LOL She is a sweet pea though and my biggest fan.

| Lily can jump out of those plastic play yards and over baby gates and she is little!! She gets her back legs hooked and climbs over cause I have watched her do it so I don't think the plastic lattis would work either cause they can climb it. It almost has to be something straight up and down that they can't get their back legs in to climb. She jumps up on the bed and off and off the BACK of the couch!! I am scared to death she will break her leg or worse but there is no stopping her she jumps so fast!! I can't keep her confined in anything and she still at 8 months old screams her head off in her crate!! She doesn't tear up anything so far in the house so I guess until she misbehaves I will let her go and hope for the best while she "matures to a big girl"!! |

YT 2000 Club Member | I keep my toy poodle, in a metal crate while we are gone and my newest pup stays in a old pack and play that I was given. Its big enough for a small soft sided crate, his food, toys etc. He cant get out cause the sides are tall and the bottom is deep, however if your pup likes to chew like my poodle does/did, she chewed a huge whole in a 40 dollar soft sided crate in less than 10 minutes when she was 4 months old and it wasnt through the mesh part is was the hard canvas part. the pack and play isnt a good idea. I think if you give your dog a few days in the crate with out letting her out everytime she whined she would get use to it. If you dont like to here her whine, leave for a bit or put her crate in another room. Good luck with whatever you choose.

| thanks for the suggestion. Dolly does not chew much on things she's not supposed to. Im more worried about her safety issues. Once I left her in my living room for a short while alone and she wrapped herself in the blanket on my sofa and can't get out. things like this is what I am concerned. but I will try to be strong this time. Dolly is my problem child as well. I had another yorkie rainer(now she is with new mommy), and rainer was calm and quiet, well house trained. but Dolly, since we got her when she was already 8 months old, she already had her own personality. plus, she is just too smart. she knows that we adore her and she would use it to get what she wants. whenever I told her that she did something wrong, she would climb upon me and give me a couple big kisses, and my heart just melted and seriously, I don't know what to do with her! | |

| Maybe this can work We have a play yard type pen that is 4 foot by 4 foot and it has a lid on top of it. We got it at petsmart. You might could try that where there is a lid on top so they couldn't jump out and would be safe! Hopefully that would work. Best of luck. |
