My female yorkie pup 8 1/2 mo old just finished her heat and her nipples enlarged and are still the same way. Is this normal? They are also hard around them.

It may just take awhile for her hormones to normalize after her heat.

It is very normal after a heat..it will be gone in a week or so.

I wanted to say thankyou for responding. My mother was visiting today and used my computer to ask this question. She was extremely worried. She has never had a female go into heat. She has now decided to go home to Maine and sign up to yorkietalk. So thank you again for helping her.

My yorkie also got her first heat a little earlier than yours 7 1/2 months and her nipples are still enlarged. They have been like that for close to two weeks now.

I was told that the twat and nipples do not go back to the original size after heat. I never noticed this when I was younger and raising dogs. I have noticed, now that I have been told, that it is true. Lady came in heat at 13 months and I bred her so I couldn't tell from her, but Autumn came in heat at 8 months and I didn't breed her and her little twat and nipples are bigger than before she went into heat. She is a year now. They don't go back to the original size. The swelling of her mammary glands did go down, it just took a while. Sylvia
