| half cry / half whining / driving me crazy! What is this annoying thing my little Roxie is doing lately!! She is 6 months, been spayed, gets love and attention, but the minute I stop petting her, she half crys half whines at me. I ignore her, and she will eventually stop, but it is soooo annoying!! If I am on the computer, she sits and does the same thing. What can I do to stop this! She is doing better with the nipping, but still has her moments.

| awww she just loves mommy so much that she wants her attention 100% of the time . Bobby does this too. When he acts like this, I usually take him for a walk or play hard with him so he will get some energy out. this usually helps! Good luck. |

| Completely ignore her when she whines. When she is quiet, praise her, get up off your bootie and play some games with her, or give her a treat. Do this periodically during the night and she'll get the hint that giving mommy quiet time will get her good things, while whining will get her no where. |

| My dog whines sometimes when he is in his kennel or wants to play. I just put my finger by my lips and say be quite in a firm and calm voice. I do not stop saying the command until he is quite. When I say this command, I give him the look teachers giver their students when they misbehave in class. My dog is very submissive, and he does not want me to be mad at him. This technique works for me. |

| The poster above me is right that ignoring the dog and praising him will stop most dogs from crying. My dog is a puppy. When he was younger, I tried to ignore his crying and he got louder and louder. I had to bang on his kennel and say be quite when he started to cry. I could not let him start crying. Every time he started to cry, I gave him this command. I praised him when he was not crying by cheering for him, giving him a toy, or letting him out his kennel. Some people use a squirt bottle to squirt water on the dog when he cried. Last edited by Lovely05; 11-17-2008 at 03:18 PM. |

YT 1000 Club Member | KiKi will whine in her pen...in the morning...when she knows someone is up...she wants up too...but only mommy gets her up/out. She sounds like a bird chirping.... Then If I am sitting on the couch and she can't get up...ohhh she will whine like she is dying!!! It's so funny...and ohhh it pulls on the heart strings!

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Yea, these little Yorkies are famous for whining. The best thing to do is ignore them when they do this. They are like kids if they figure out that whining gets them attention they will keep doing it. I tell my boy to be quite and I ignore him. I think they do it more as puppies, I pen and crate trained my boy and I remember him whining quite a bit. Make sure they have lots of toys to, we would love to give them all our attention but for alot of us it is not that easy. He will learn that when he whines he gets no attention. And they don't like that. |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk! I adopted my baby and he has a wonderful habit (we didnt teach him but we do like it) he will not jump up on your lap until he has "permission". He barks and waits for you to tell him either OK or pat your lap. Wasn't sure what he wanted at first, he is amazing. But vocal with his needs. With the right consistent training this may be a blessing? Enjoy Yorkie Talk, I am new also and am addicted already!

| Oh, I forgot to say welcome to Yorkie Talk. I started using the "be quite" command to remind him not to whine when he wants attention. Also, I taught him to be quite by making the "sh" sound that we learned in school to tell other people to be quite in class. After I made the "sh" sound, I would put him on his mat with a toy and ignored his whining. Every time he whined, I made the "sh" sound and he got quite. With patients and consistency, I was able to teach him these commands. Every day he whined less and less. I was teaching him not to whine for attention. I used the "be quite" command in his kennel, because he was not use to sleeping in his kennel. His breeder did not believe in putting dogs in kennels. The kennel was a very scary place for him, and I had to get him use to sleeping in his kennel at night. I had to crate train him before I allowed him to roam my room freely at night. Now he sleeps quietly on his doggy mat at night. |

Donating YT Addict | Tyke will sit and bark at me and I've figured out he just wants my attention. Usually he will go play or lay down if I tell him I'm not playing right this min. I guess he's heard it so much....he knows... But they do love your undivided attention. welcome also
