Yorkie Weight Hello, Does anyone know what the proposed weight the offspring will be of a 5lb yorkie terrier mommy and 3lb yorkie terrier daddy? Also, what are the side effects of giving parvo shots to puppies that are too small (4oz, 12 weeks old)? Thanks Guys!

My yorkie came from a 5 pound momma and a 3 pound daddy and he is 3.5 pounds at 4 months. My vet said he should be around 6 pounds when he is grown. But every dog is different so I don't know if you can really base that much on the size of the parents. As far as the shots on a tiny baby like that, I would trust only the advice of my vet! Where Oscar's health is concerned, I go straight to the top! Best of luck! Debbie, Oscar's Mom

Gracie is the product of a 5 lb Mom and 3 lb Dad, and the breeder says she'll be about 4 lbs. Right now she's 12 weeks and 1 lb. 7 oz., which if you double the weight at that age like they say to determine adult weight, she'll be about 3.4 lbs. as a grown up.

size Was that a mistake? If your pup is 4 oz now, it is the size of a newborn and will be well undr a pound as an adult...you will have the smallest Yorkie in the world and get to be on Oprah...just kidding you. You have to look at the average weight of the bloodline..some pups can skip an generation and take after grandparents etc...

4 oz. Yorkie Yeah, sorry to confuse you guys, but I was talking about two different dogs. I bought a yorkie from a breeder in Indiana where the mom and dad were both 3 lbs, however the babies turned out to be only 4oz. at 12 weeks old. The breeder gave them their parvo shots and only one survived. She told me that I could have another puppy from a second batch that was breeded however they have different mamas....5 lbs and same dad. I just wanted to figure out how much she would weigh. The breeder told me that I could have the girl that survived the parvo shots but I'm sort of scared because she lost hair on her back from the shot and i don't know what type of defects she might have in the long run. Thanks for your input guys!

size After 30 plus years in the dog world forgive me if I am leery. A pup who weighs 4oz at 3 full months will grow to about 8 oz as an adult...to date the smallesty Yorkie in the Ginness book of record was about 1 pound a few oz. I ahve seem many 2 pounders..I have a 2 3/4 pounder myself..but no one believes an 8 o adult. TRIPLE the 12 week weight and you have a fairly close idea. Most average pups are in the 2 to 3 pound range at 12 weeks..making them 4 to 6 pounds as adults. This pup would have to grow alot to make a full pound...prepare for mega vet bills..good luck.

Today I was at the store with Cecilia who weighs just under 4 pounds and this woman started talking to me about her. She said her friend just got a yorkie. She then asked me if Cecilia was kind of a larger yorkie she's never seen was as big as her. I was kind of shocked. Cecilia is relatively small. She couldn't even be shown because she is under 4 pounds. I asked the lady how old her friends dog was and she said 10 weeks. I was thinking "oh well obviously they don't stay that small idiot" of course I didn't say that. Usually I get the opposite response from people. I always have people asking if she is a miniature. I usually just say she is just a standard yorkie instead of explaining that there is no such thing as a miniature. Here is a picture of Cecilia being irritated that I am taking her picture. She doesn't love the camera like most of your puppies seem to.

Yeah 4 pounds is tiny, some people won't listen no matter what you say, so I just usually nod, smile, and walk away.

What do you all think is the lowest weight that is still healthy? Also is there any way to determine if the dog will change color when it grows up, because I love the way puppies look, but not really into the way most of the adults that I have seen look ( long hair, not brown etc.) I just ordered a Yorkie and am kind of having second thoughts, but I really do like how some people say they are hypoallergenic as I do have allergies.

I think a Yorkie needs to be at least 2.5 or 3 pounds to be healthy. If you do have allergies, I suggest visiting the breeder in person first to see if you are allergic, as there's nothing worse than finding a lovable Yorkie to adopt but then be allergic to him or her from the start. Or be around a friend's Yorkie. Yorkies do change color as they grow older, but as for hair, you can cut that to any length you would like. Good luck!
