| Teaching Potting Outside My 7 month old yorkie girl believes going outside is to play, not to potty. She will bark in front of the sliding glass door and we think she needs to potty, so we take this as an opportunity to show her that it is time to potty. When she goes outside, she runs around chasing flies or sits in the sun. How can I make her know that when shes outside, she needs to potty first, play later. Am I expecting too much out of my puppy, or out of a dog in general? |

Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | teach her to potty on command...that seems to work...for instance when you see her doing it say a command like go potty and when she is done give her a treat and praise...one she learns the command you and then try it outside...hehe all of mine go on command...

| I use "go potty" too, but i guess that means for her "Go sniff around, have yourself a fun time. Chase the flies! Sit in the sun!" lol |

Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | the best way to do it is while you see her doing say the command...then after she is done praise...if she already got the command down then when outside you tell her to go potty...it works for me...hehe

| HI... Now I am no where near an expert, I am still trying to figure out how to get Gucci to ONLY pee outside, BUT I do know one thing that works with your problem. Put the leash on before you take your pup outside. Take him to one spot and say your command over and over. Gucci has learned that he has to "do the pee" before I let the leash off. He is only 3 months and he has got this leash and pee thing down pretty good. I am now weaning him off the leash little by little because he has learned his command. But I wouldn't do so until he has. So try that, it worked great for me. |
