Getting another yorkie..now a concerned ? i found an akc female that is 2 years old that me and my husband are really interested in...great price..probably never see this again...im scheduled to get her in 2 weeks...she reminds me of my gidget a lot.. BUT after sleeping on it i woke up and started thinking i have a litter of 7 that are only 2 weeks old, i dont think i should bring something in. because the puppies are too young to be vaccinated or exposed to bacteria of any kind...should this be a concern...im pretty sure she is up to date on vaccines (forgot to ask) but she could still bring something in right? should i pass it up??

My thoughts are.... follow your "gut feeling", but be sure that you are thinking logically with a clear head and not just being a worry wart. If the female is one that will be a new addition to your breeding program and is a truly a good deal, then make it happen . Before bring her home have her thoroughly checked out by your vet. Keep her isolated from the new mommy and pups - the pups will be protected somewhat from immunities from mother's milk, but I wouldn't take any chances. OR better yet, maybe someone can keep the new addition for you until the pups are old enough for their first set of shots

thanks chattiesmom you think that if i make sure she is uptodate on vaccines, (i know she is on heartworm preventive so i would assume she is uptodate) get her checked out...which im getting her on a weekend i dont know anything vets opened on the weekend because it will take all morning to go get her on saturday and just keep her away from the puppies... the puppies are in the living room, in a my iris kennel..and the other dogs get free reign and then at night they go inthe crate..i have a big crate and a litte crate...right now im only using the little crate for tanner and little girl yes we really want to expand on the breeding program...im always so excited about the puppies and i will have 5 yorkies now!!! Gidget Tanner Little Girl Gidget's& Tanner's baby Trinket (and i have already found a stud for her) and the new one we havent named yet but her name is Flo right now

I would definately be sure that she is upt on vaccines AND when you go to pick her up take a few minutes to really examine her -- feel for lumps where she shouldn't have them, be sure her eyes and ears are clear, and if it won't insult the seller, take her temp. I would think that the seller would be ok considering you are bring her into a home with new puppies AND you can get her vet checked before you walk in your door. If were me, I would keep as much physical distance from the other members of the pack as possible until you are able to get her vet checked. I like to isolate new members for a few days anyway to give them a chance to learn the smells and sounds of the new environment plus it gives me a chance to watch for nasties such as kennel cough.

Take it from me...as soon as you get the dog bathe her in an anti-bacterial shampoo and let it set for 15 minutes. I bought a male and brought him in and all of my dogs got violently ill. He carried in a bacteria from the breeders home that my dogs just could not tolerate. Cost me over $400. in vet bills to get my dogs well again. You don't want to risk that with your pups. I'm not saying that bathing in the anti-bacterial is a cure all, but I sure wish I had thought of it then. It may have saved us alot of greif. Congrats and good luck.
