| Many changes for Izzy and I Izzy and I will be going through a big change in a few days. We are moving from Detroit to D.C. I just got a new job...yay!... so I have to pack up and head to the Nations Capitol. We will be driving to D.C. on Friday . It is about a 8-9 hour drive. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do to make the trip comfortable for him? He's never been in the car this long. Also any suggestions on how to make this move in general easy for him? Moving can be stressful on humans and I can't imagine what it will do to dogs. One more thing, I start working next Monday and I was wondering if I should leave him home all day or take him to a daycare so that he doesnt feel so lonely. All advice welcome. Thanks!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Good luck on your move and new job. I would try and get him use to you coming and going over the weekend and see how he does. Try and put his favorite things out in the new place and he should settle down soon.

| Make sure he has all his familiar stuff: his crate, his blanket, his food/water bowls, his toys. Being surrounded with all his favorites will make the transition easier. Do you leave him alone during the day normally? If so, he should be OK. If it would make YOU feel better to take him to daycare, then do so: the move will be traumatic for YOU, too. Have you been able to locate Doggie Daycare already? In any event, congratulations on securing a new job, even if you have to relocate to do so. Jobs are hard to come by right now ... Being able to take Izzy with you will make things easier. I've also found that walking dogs is a good way to meet new folks, too (EVERYone loves a Yorkie!) Oh, and be sure to make frequent stops on the road so Izzy can stretch his legs and go potty (you too!). When travelling, it may be a good idea to take bottled water for him so water changes along the way don't affect his little system too much. Good luck! |

| Congrats on the new job! I'm sure your baby will be fine. I would say keep him as close to his usual routine as possible. You know that living in D.C. puts you close enough to ride the train to the 2009 YT Meetup in Alexandria VA!?!?!

| We haven't went quite that far in the car but I took both mine on a 6 hour drive, we stopped twice for potty breaks and I had food and water in the car with us. They only drank a little while actually driving and Carmine ate a bit, otherwise they slept the whole way! Congrats on the job and the move!! |

I do leave him home normally and right now I have been in and out of the house trying to run my errands and he is used to that. I am going to check into a daycare and vet today. His vet gave me all of his records so I'm all set with that. Thanks for the tips!

Yes!! I saw that! I will definitely put it in my calendar so we can make it. I hate that I missed the meet up this year.
