| Pet Shop Yorkie After learning so much here about pet shop pups, I always feel so bad for the animals there. I was at a mall the other day looking for a new outfit. I passed by this pet shop I'd never seen before. They had just opened. I walked into the store and watched the employee take a yorkie out of its glass cage and carry it up to the area they have to show pups off in the front window. First, she didn't even look at the pup or pet it or anything. She just carried it up there so coldly. I asked her if I could see the yorkie. She got the pup out and handed it to me. I petted it and talked to it and it started licking my face. The lady said Oh dont let it do that. I gave it back, and it went back in the window (no toys, just shredded paper). The puppy was just whining. I felt so bad. I don't understand how this can be good for puppies. In the back, they had the glass front cages with two puppies in each cage. It was very clean, but I felt so bad. I bet these puppies are alone all night long every night. It broke my heart. I wonder if the pet shop people even play with them. Im so glad I know Triss wasn't treated like this. It makes me feel better knowing that she was loved and cuddled even before I got her. I also feel better knowing who the breeder was and the parent dogs. I guess some dogs are just luckier than others. I wish it weren't this way.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | I agree. I force myself not to venture into the pet store at our mall. It's too heartbreaking.

| I understand your sadness...I avoid our mall pet shop like the plague... But, sometimes when I take my mother to the mall, she really wants to stop in to see the puppies, and since she's bound to a wheelchair and doesn't get out much, we go. At least the workers in our pet shop seem to care about the animals and take turns playing with them.... |

| I avoid those shops too.. My heart won't take it. The Sara McLaughlin commercial for ASPCA does me the same way.. I give Smoky an extra hug and tell him how lucky we are to have each other.. I would have every one of them in my house if I could.

| Having had a rescue dog from a puppy mill, this is a subject that is near and dear to my heart. I would ask, if at all possible, Please, Please do not buy anything from these places. Even if you are not buying a puppy, the purchase of items helps to support them and keep the stores open. I realize there may be some places that this is the only pet shop available, but please, if you can purchase items anywhere else or online, please do so and do not support these types of pet stores in any way. I thank you and so does Annie B. Still miss you horribly, my wee little one.

OP, I agree it is heartbreaking. Sometimes I am compelled to venture into one of the local petshops, and always leave broken hearted.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | If a store sells puppies, I do not spend my money there. I look for my items on the internet or go to the pet boutiques that groom and sell products. |

Yorkie Yakker | i always feel terrible for the puppies in the pet shop near my house. i can't stand the way the animals there are treated. the cages look so uncomfortable. They are wire bottom and some don't even have a blanket to lie on. they are basically sitting in poo sometimes too. the puppies look sad and the two yorkies i saw last time weren't even energetic! i was in shock because my Moses is so playful all the time. what can be done for these puppies? i feel like i should be doing something to help but i dont know what? i never buy from the shops but i do go & to cuddle with the puppies because I feel really sad seeing them that way. We just had the hurricane Ike here & i couldn't help but wonder if they were left all alone in that shop in the midst of the storm. My puppy whimpered in bed with me because he was so terrified.

| Yeah, I just moved to a new city and they have stores here called Pet-O-Rama. I guess they're a popular chain but they carry the Wellness food I give Chewie. They also have dogs and cats. I hate going in there because I wish I could save them all

My Little Man! Donating Member | I cannot go to those places. I start to cry... I pet and talk to the animal just to try to make it feel better. Then I leave being sad, mad and depressed. I dont go to the stores that sell supplies and animals. I will not support puppy mill! I only go to stores that only sell supplies and nothing more.
