Flea help!

Last week I noticed that my little one has fleas. I went to the pet store and the vet suggested advantage. She still has fleas!!!! I have no clue what to do!

Pita had a problem with fleas too. My vet wouldn't let me have frontline until she was just under four pounds. So prior to that I gave her frequent baths in dish soap which killed any fleas that were on her. Now she is on frontline and is completely flea free.

Go get her a flea dip at the groomers or go get flea shampoo and give her a good bath. I use the frontline but once a month I do a good flea bath and you will see the fleas fall off her while you're giving her the bath. Its lots of different flea shampoos out there. I lost my mind when I found a flea on my girl I took her to petsmart for a dip and now I do a flea bath for her.

My Vet put Tricksie on Comfortis, she has never had a flea since, have not had to give her a pill for 4 months.

I had the same experience using Advantage on my cats. Frontline works like a charm....and they sell it in a spray that will allow you to customize the dose to your dog (# of sprays = # of lbs. the pup is). I use the spray simply because I feel like it is less chemicals on my baby, AND it is way cheaper than buying the drops. Quote from the Frontline website "Gentle enough to use on puppies and kittens 8 weeks of age or older without weight restrictions." Frontline flea Spray Kills Fleas & Ticks My vet sells it for $28 plus tax, so $26 is a good deal.....every store I've seen it in sells if for $35. Plus, one bottle will last you well over a year (probably closer to 2??) dosing them once a month.

Make sure when using any topical flea treatment...drops or spray...to not bathe them 2 days before or after application or it will at the very least reduce the effectiveness of it.

I don't recommend products like Comfortis or Sentinel (which also does heartworms, although not very effectively)---they are pill form flea meds and work by sterilizing adult fleas that bite your dog! MUCH better, IMO, to kill the fleas and ticks before they bite!! Most drops/sprays kill at least adult and larvae stage fleas, but Frontline kills flea eggs too and also prevents ticks as well.

Plain old Dawn works great as a "flea" bath!!! Cheap and no chemicals, but it will wash away all the fleas currently on you pup! Then you should wait 2 days and treat. That will get any that sneak on in between, and kill any others that get on.

P.S. If you have a flea infestation in your house or yard, you'll need to have the area sprayed (you should know if it's that bad in the house because you'll have bites). Flea meds alone won't stop them if they're that bad already, though they will take care of a minor "infestation". My vet said once to me that there are something like 10 fleas (?? can't remember the exact number) for every adult flea you FIND. Gross, huh?!!

flea dips do not have any residule affects there is a new product called promeris that seems to work also a pill to kill any on them now called capstar lasts for 24 hours

I run a flea comb through chester several times a day most of the time, you can put a little petroleum jelly on the flea comb and they wont jump off, they are quick little things.
