| Docking Tail What is the last age a vet will dock a tail? The owner of my pup likes the tails on Yorkies so he did not have it done. Mackensie is 17 weeks old & I'm sure she is too old. I never asked my vet. Someone told me it would be to painful to have it done now. Is this true? If so I will luv the tail! |

| It can only be done at this point with surgery. I think I would just enjoy the tail at this point. |

| No idea....it is illegal here due to cruelty issues, plus it is just totally un-necessary. Your breeder has had the foresight to see that the same is coming for the US...thank heavens The tail will be beautiful once the hair grows in and flows... and waggs profusley...trust me, you won't regret for one minute having that tail ! | It would be considered an amputation now and she would have to be put under anesthesia. You could do it at the same time as her spay or puppy teeth pulling if you will be doing either of those. It is surgery, so it would have to be painful but it can be and has been done.

| From a dog speak point of view she alway had it. Dogs with long tails have a hard time understanding dock tailed dogs when they meet and the other way around if they are not soicalized well with tailed and not tailed dogs when young. If you live with it I sure she rather have it as it is a risk always to put a dog under to do a surgry.... plus the risk of complications that can happen as well. You dog your choice. JL

| Sometimes, on my way to work, I see a man walking a Yorkie with a long tail. I did a double-take the first time, but thereafter, the only thing I notice is a happy little dog trotting alongside his master with his tail held high, fur blowing in the breeze. Both of my dogs are docked; however, because I have no aspirations for the show ring, if they had come to me with tail intact, I would have been just as happy with them. A tail is a happy little flag, a true indicator of how they're feeling. At your pup's current age, it CAN be done, but the question is, SHOULD it be done? What purpose would it achieve? And it would hurt ... a *lot*. |
