| Animal Control Question I'll make a semi-long story short. There's a yorkie I know of and when I first saw this yorkie I just got a vibe that he/she wasn't being raised in the best environment. It seems that the family has no idea how to care for a small dog. Now I learned that this poor baby is always running around lose, like this weekend at nighttime when it was raining, and has almost been hit numerous times! I know animal control needs to be called, but does anyone know how that works? Can they be called only when the dog is running lose? Would it be better to catch the yorkie and say we found a "stray" even though we know where the owners live? I just want this yorkie to end up in a home where the owner will know that you cannot treat dogs like this. But I don't want them to just put him/her to sleep either. Or will they return the yorkie to the owners, and should we just call everytime he's loose? I don't know if the dog wears any collars or ID. Also, it's not like the dog got loose somehow and the owners are looking for him, because he just hangs out in the street. I never called animal control before, so if anyone has any idea or any experience and can help me out it'd be greatly appreciated!

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Well here if I called animal control on that situation...if I said it was a stray...they would take the animal to the shelter. If no one is looking for it...by the 5th day he'd probably be euthanized. This is the city pound...not a shelter or rescue. If I caught the dog...and notified animal control where he lived. They would ticket the owners for allowing him to run loose plus any license he may not have, plus they'd want proof of a rabies shot.

| Does your county have a leash law? If so just call and complain that they are allowing him out without a leash. They will stop by for a visit and that is usually all it takes for them to comply and keep him safe. Deana Prestigeous Yorkies |

| I'm pretty sure that they do, just want to double check, then next time he's out w/o a leash we'll call. Not that the leash makes the poor dog that much safer, the little girl pulls on his leash, rollerblades holding the leash, makes huge circles w/ it pulling at the poor dogs neck (imagine a kid w/ a sparkler)...so that's why if I see these people outside I want to say something informative, but not come off sounding mean because then they won't listen. Also, it's not in my neighborhood so I don't see this all the time.

| hmmmm...tough call Given the information that he seems to not be cared for, my heart would tell me try to catch him when running loose at night and then call a (reputable)Yorkie Rescue to say I found a stray |
