| Dually trained I have a couple of questions to ask.... Those of you who have your baby trained pretty well to go outside....here in Memphis we get the residuals from all of these hurricanes, and we have these downright torrential rains...on days like that, what do you do with your baby who is trained to go outside, and it is almost impossible? Next question....does anyone have a baby who is trained to use pee pad or whatever when you work long hours, but also is smart enough to go outside when you are around and available to take them out?

| All three of mine are "dually trained." When we are in the city they, for the most part, only go on the pee pad. If we go for a walk, they go outside. If we go visit somewhere with a yard they almost exclusively go outside. I think if you just reward for her for going to the bathroom in both areas, she'll eventually get it.

| Misti1... thanks for asking that question! I've always wondered.... And how do you pee pad train? I have only done outdoor training, but it gets so stinkin' wet here in WA state. I have to blow dry the dog every time we come in from a potty trip during the rainy season (no, not quite 364days a year haha) I would love to be able to do the dual training. deb |

| I'm really shooting for the outside training, but I can't use the crate this time around as she would have to be locked up in it too many hours. Thus the pee pad, paper thing. But when I'm home she has outside down pretty well, or rather I do, as I take her out a lot. She has not learned to ask to go out yet. Sometimes she just sits in the kitchen and I figure she is trying to figure out how to get outside. Well she's only 4 months old, soon I'll be home with her full time and we can really work on it.

| I have the same problem so I bought a canopy so I can have a covered area in my backyard. I haven't put it up as yet but it was raining like crazy last night and I couldn't get him to go out. He held it until it stopped but then I had to deal with the wet grass. I'll see how this work until the snow comes. At this point I will try anything. |

| They WAIT! During our long Rain Storms, I try to force them to go under our Car Port but they refuse to go on wet grass so they are forced to wait until the wheather clears up. I would love to have them Trained to go in a Litter Box b/c I don't like the Pee Pads, but for now I'm Happy that they are House Trained and I don't want to confuse them? |

| I trained both of mine to use door bells. I have door bells on both the door to the attached garage and door to the outside. I put pads in the garage. I just started them out to go outdoors in the daytime/nice weather. When the weather is bad or at night, I would have them use the pads in the garage. Believe it or not, but they learn quickly. At night, she goes to the door leading to the garage and rings the bell. In the daytime, she goes to the outside door and rings that bell. It works well if you start them out that way from the beginning. It wouldn't be any different to use the pads in the house.

| I trained Jewels too go outside first but she wouldnt go out in the rain and now the snow so I pad trained her. It wasnt hard I just confined her to an area with the pee pad. I also put a pee pad in the area that she would go to in the house. If shes outside she will go outside but mainly uses the pee pad. Its just what worked for her. Now my other one is outside trained. But he will go out in all weather

| I guess they said wrong. Anyway, mine prefers to go outside when the weather is nice. But she prefers to use those pads in the garage when it isn't so nice.

Yep that was kind of what I had in mind. For the last two days (fingers crossed), I noticed we have not had any inside mistakes, and I seem to sense and effort to do better from her.

| I'm relieved to see that so many pups are dually trained. I am getting my new furbaby this weekend (YAY!) and plan to dual train her. Lucy never wanted to go on the pee pad and goes outside religiously. If it rains she will hold it, and that little dog can hold it! We recently moved to an apartment and I put a pad down bc it was raining and I wanted to see if she would catch on, but she just thought it was another spot for her to lay, lol.
