| She plays aggressive with her toys. My 6 month old Suzi has started becoming very agressive when she plays. i do not even try taking her toy away when she behaves like that. Suzi will make a angry barking sound too. You can tell she is trying to 'kill" her stuffed squeaky. She shakes her mouse sooo hard and violently. I do not want to encourage agressive behavior, but, I want to allow her to play. I do not want it to escalate to the point where she is playing like that with me or my son. Is this ok to just let her be this way?

| Roxy has 3 or 4 certain toys that she "kills" every time she play with them. But she is fine with everything else, so I just let her. She is also totally focused when she's digging - so much so that the only way to distract her without getting bit is by dropping a garbage can lid right beside her. Once she's distracted, she's fine. I consider it energy well spent since it does eventually tire her out. Hopefully, your baby is just practicing her instincts.

| Chachi plays very aggressively with his toys I think that is normal. He has only got agressive with us once over a chicken bone about a yr 1/2 ago and we corrected him and he hasnt did it since

| It just play and sounds much worse then it is. Really. I'd teach her to give up her toys.. Try takeing the same toy and doing a staight across trade or even beter pull out the treats and trade the treat for the toy and then give the toy back. Dog is going to think you are crazy look I get a treat for giveing up my toy like a great girl than I get it ack. What is up with that. But then you have the base plan for "give it or mine" so when you need to take something from the dog's mouth, you have a nice gentle switch in place and the dogs is give the chance to do well. JL |

| My little girl, Roxy, goes a little crazy when she plays with certain toys. But she is only playing and she isn't mean outside of that. Kind of funny we have her a 3 inch long dead chicken toys (funny) and she puts it in her mouth and slings it up in plants and she cries for it. I have even had it pass by my head. lol No worries, I think it is normal. |

| Thank you.. Suzi just has become worse... That was what I was concerned about. However, i like the suggestion of teaching her to drop the toy. I'll admit that it is funny to watch her "kill" her toy. i leave her alone and let her go at it .As long as it is not sending the wrong message to her, i will not be worried

| Lilli, bless her little 4 lb self, shakes the living bejeesus out of her toys! I did have to teach her that she may NOT bite my hand with her teeth. Now, her (and all my babies for that matter) can lay rough with their toys and I can play with them, but they know to be watchful of my hands and limbs. And the few times they have gotten me on accident while we were playing, they IMMEDIATELY step back and give me the most sorry look ever! lol They know they did something they weren't supposed to and they're sorry for it. I know also that it was an accident. It's just all about teaching. She's a puppy, she'll play rough and tumble. Just make sure she knows to be carful of you

| "killing toy" Sammy would shake his toy so violently that it would fly out of his mouth. It was hysterical to watch. I even have video where you can hear it when it hits a dish on our island after flying out of his mouth. He would run, looking for it. Sometimes, we'd find a toy or two on the counter. I'd ask my husband, "did you put this here?" We'd both laugh, knowing Sammy had "tossed" it up there. My new little girl hasn't begun that yet. I'm sure she will. She is only 5 months old now. Sammy had a blast! We were always afraid he would give himself brain damage!! Last edited by SammySyverson; 09-09-2008 at 03:26 PM. |

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | I really do think it's fine that she is playing this way...after all, she is still just a puppy - and it IS her toy that she is doing this too - not a human My Stedman shakes his head so hard and growls at his toys when he really "gets into it" - however, he ONLY does this WITH HIS TOYS and nothing else and certainly never to a human lol. I think it's cute and not to mention, hilarious

| General Lee is very aggresive when he plays with a lot of his toys, however, I can and do on occasion take anything I want out of his mouth. When we are on walks, he will pick up all sorts of nasty stuff and I have to open his mouth and pull it out. Because of that I can take any toy out I want. |

| I have one word for you: TERRIER!!!! (The root "terr" in terrier means "ground/earth" because they are ground conquerors and are very mighty little dogs who love to go after anything from small rodents to dogs 10x their own size!) My Mollie is very aggressive with her squeakies (they're her favorites because they're like the furry, squeaking rats that the Yorkie breed was trained to kill) but absolutely a lamb when playing with me. I can take her favorite sherpa ducky from her mouth when she is killing it and she never goes for me. Every dog is different though, mine is more submissive and she pees when she's excited to see someone. You may have a more assertive dog. My advice to you would be to let her have her way with the toy and only try to take from her when she seems to have gotten the majority of her thrill out of it. Never allow her to bite your hands or play with her mouth (this excites them and makes them want to nip more.) If she does, quickly scold her in a loud, deep, authoritative voice and perhaps flick her on the nose if her bite hurts you even a little. She will soon get over it. I allow my dog to play with my hands because she is so submissive and she opens and closes her mouth on my fingers so gently that I barely even feel her. But I would never allow that sort of behavior from a more dominant dog. Hope this helped! |
